Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead multiple Software Engineering Managers and Agile development teams within a large enterprise technology organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on technology leader who has built and coached engineering leadership teams while driving software delivery, modernization, and engineering excellence. The successful candidate will have a strong background leading software development organizations, partnering with Automation QA teams, and mentoring engineering managers to build high-performing teams. Experience with Guidewire is highly preferred, along with expertise in modern Agile delivery, cloud technologies, DevOps, and engineering best practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coach, and develop multiple Software Engineering Managers and their Agile software development teams
  • Build a high-performing engineering organization focused on accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor engineering leaders while developing future leadership talent and succession plans.
  • Oversee delivery of multiple software development initiatives, balancing new feature delivery, modernization, quality, and operational support
  • Partner closely with Development, Automation QA, Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Security teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
  • Champion engineering best practices including Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, observability, and secure software development
  • Lead modernization initiatives involving cloud technologies, APIs, and scalable application architectures
  • Drive engineering effectiveness through coaching, performance metrics, process improvements, and operational excellence
  • Evaluate and implement AI-enabled engineering capabilities to improve developer productivity and software quality
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align engineering strategy with business objectives
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including multiple years managing Software Engineering Managers
  • Proven experience leading multiple Agile software development teams within complex enterprise environments
  • Demonstrated success coaching engineering leaders and building high-performing software engineering organizations
  • Strong background overseeing both Software Development and Automation QA organizations
  • Experience leading enterprise software modernization initiatives utilizing Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and automated testing practices
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and modern cloud-based software development environments preferred
  • Guidewire experience is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, SDLC, engineering delivery, and modern development practices
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and cross-functional technology organizations to deliver strategic initiatives
  • Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and organizational development skills
  • Experience within insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry is preferred

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth
