Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Leads a team of software architects providing services and architectures that enable the development of resilient, scalable software.  Manages the day-to-day operations of the software architecture area. 
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching to the architecture team(s) responsible for creating and supporting architectures. 
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a team organization that ensures skills and capacity for project and enhancement work, while providing superior support for devlopment teams utilizing the architecture. 
  • Partners with the principal and senior architects and software engineers to drive the development and curation of the architecture. 
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with application delivery teams to provide architecture services and support. 
  • Ensures that the team of architects follow sound practices and processes that remain consistent with the established architecture. 
  • Leads the planning and implementation of large, complex work efforts. 
  • Maintains knowledge of key Uline business processes supported by our applications and technology. 
  • Ensures requests for software architecture services are understood, prioritized, and addressed. 
  • Maintains productive management level relationships with the company’s business functions. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the activities enumerated above. 

Experience: 

  • 10+ years application development experience 
  • 5+ years leading software architects. 
  • Experience managing architects curating software architectures for custom development and packaged software implementations. 
  • Experience with both custom application software development and packaged software implementations. 
  • Experience in waterfall and agile development processes. 

Competencies/Skills: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present complex topics in terms relatable to business partners. 
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, determine appropriate actions and complete projects with little direction. 
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a multi-project environment, while ensuring production systems are up and performing well. 
  • May require travel to branch and international locations. 
  • Exhibits qualities such as being decisive, organized, empathetic and dedicated. 
  • Strong prior experience with management of architectures leverging a distributed micro-services architecture developed in Java, JavaScript or C#.  
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members. Well-developed coaching and performance management skills.
