What is a software executive?

Software executives are high-level leaders responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, management, and overall success of software companies or divisions. They often hold titles such as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), or Vice President of Software Development. Their duties include setting business goals, managing teams, overseeing product development, establishing partnerships, and ensuring the company stays competitive in the technology marketplace. Software executives play a critical role in driving innovation, maintaining profitability, and guiding organizational growth.

How do software executives balance strategic leadership with staying updated on evolving technology trends?

Software Executives often face the challenge of aligning long-term business goals with rapid changes in technology. To manage this, they regularly engage with technical leaders, attend industry conferences, and participate in ongoing learning to stay informed about new tools and methodologies. Additionally, they foster a culture of innovation within their teams, encouraging knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration. This approach helps them make informed strategic decisions while ensuring the organization's technology stack remains competitive.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software executive?

To thrive as a Software Executive, you need a deep understanding of software development, business strategy, and leadership, often supported by a technical degree and significant industry experience. These skills are crucial for driving innovation, aligning technology with business goals, and ensuring organizational growth in a competitive market.

Job description

Banyan Software is the best permanent home for software businesses that serve specialized industries, their employees, and their customers. We are on a mission to acquire, build, and grow great companies worldwide, helping them modernize through shared AI expertise and operational discipline. The Banyan Software Foundation, endowed with $100 million in Banyan stock, leverages technology to build a greener and more equitable world. Banyan is Great Place to Work Certified, a five-time Inc. 5000 honoree, and a top 10 company on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Atlanta, Banyan operates more than 100 portfolio companies across North America, the UK, EU, and APAC.

This is a fully remote Founding Account Executive (Sales Opportunity in the USA) - PST Work Hours

About Comtronic Systems

Comtronic Systems is a leading provider of collections software for debt collection agencies and first-party creditors across North America. Our flagship product, Debtmaster EVO, powers the full collections lifecycle — from accounting, compliance, and workflow management to consumer communication and reporting. We serve a range of customers, from independent collection agencies to hospitals, credit unions, and banks that manage collections in-house.

We are at an inflection point. We recently launched two new products — a Consumer Portal and a Client Portal — that represent a meaningful expansion of what Comtronic delivers to its customers. The person who joins us now will help take these products to market and shape how Comtronic grows over the next several years.

As a Banyan Software operating company, we combine the agility and culture of an independent business with the stability and backing of a global software enterprise. Banyan acquires and holds companies for the long term — there is no exit clock here. You can build something that lasts.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a driven, hands-on Senior Account Executive to own Comtronic's full commercial motion. This is an individual contributor role for someone who is energized by building pipeline, running their own deals from start to finish, and working directly alongside the CEO. As Comtronic grows, this role carries a clear path toward sales leadership.

You will be the primary driver of new software bookings across Debtmaster EVO, our Consumer Portal, and our Client Portal. You will stay close to our existing customer base to surface expansion opportunities, gather market intelligence, and help shape our go-to-market approach as our product suite evolves.

What You Will Own

Sales — New Business and Existing Customer Growth (70%)

  • Own the full sales cycle from prospecting through close — both new logo and existing customer expansion.
  • Develop new business by prospecting to collection agencies and related organizations not yet using Comtronic products, leveraging AI tools and modern outreach techniques.
  • Conduct proactive outbound outreach to existing customers to identify expansion opportunities and drive adoption of new products.
  • Qualify prospects through structured discovery calls before scheduling product demonstrations.
  • Deliver structured product demonstrations, with support available during ramp for complex Debtmaster EVO engagements.
  • Sell the Consumer Portal and Client Portal as add-on solutions to the existing customer base.
  • Manage a disciplined CRM pipeline with accurate, timely forecasting to the CEO.
  • Execute smooth handoffs from closed sale to the support team.
  • Meet or exceed annual quota targets as defined in the compensation plan.

Sales Strategy and Operations (20%)

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of sales processes, demo frameworks, and outreach playbooks.
  • Identify and implement AI tools and sales technologies that improve prospecting effectiveness and deal velocity.
  • Provide market intelligence and competitive insights to inform product and go-to-market decisions.
  • Represent Comtronic at relevant industry events and conferences as appropriate.

Customer Insight and Feedback (10%)

  • Stay close to existing customers through regular engagement to surface expansion and upsell opportunities.
  • Gather and relay customer feedback to product and support teams to help inform product direction.

What We Are Looking For

Must-Haves

  • 4+ years of B2B software sales experience with a demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding quota.
  • Full-cycle sales ownership — has independently managed deals from cold prospecting through close.
  • Comfortable with outbound prospecting and cold outreach as a regular, daily part of the role. This is a hunter position.
  • Strong consultative selling skills — able to navigate complex product environments and multi-stakeholder decisions.
  • CRM discipline — Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent; rigorous pipeline management and forecasting habits.
  • Proficiency with modern sales tools: AI-assisted prospecting, email automation, LinkedIn outreach, and video conferencing.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with existing customers and identify expansion opportunities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

Strong Differentiators

  • Experience in the debt collection, financial services, or a related regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with subscription-based software business models.
  • Experience at a small or growth-stage software company where personal initiative drives results.
  • Track record of identifying and adopting AI tools to improve sales productivity — not just awareness, but active use.

This Role Is Not For You If…

  • You prefer inbound or reactive sales — this role requires you to build your own pipeline from scratch every week.
  • You are skeptical of or resistant to AI tools — our newest products have AI at their core.
  • You need a large sales support team or marketing infrastructure to be effective.

Why Comtronic & The Banyan Family

Permanent capital.  Banyan acquires companies and holds them for life. No exit timeline, no resale risk. Build long-term equity in your role, your customers, and your results.

Direct CEO access.  You will work alongside the CEO day to day. No layers, no waiting months for a decision.

New product momentum.  Comtronic's Consumer Portal and Client Portal are live and growing. The person hired now gets to help build the market story for products that are genuinely new in this industry.

Clear growth path.  This role is designed to grow. As Comtronic expands, the right person moves into a sales leadership position with team-building responsibility. We are transparent about that from day one.

Banyan peer network.  Immediate access to a community of leaders across Banyan's global portfolio of software companies — sharing playbooks, solving the same challenges, and building together.

Compensation:

Base salary: $75,000

OTE: Uncapped

Benefits - Full Banyan benefits package - health, dental, vision and more

Work Arrangement: Fully Remote - PST Work Hours

Travel: Occasional travel to industry tradeshows and conferences. In Person training may be provided.
