Description
The Student Intern will support the Information Technology Services department by providing first-level technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff. This role includes hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware and software issues, maintaining IT equipment, and delivering excellent customer service at the Help Desk. The intern will gain practical experience in a professional IT environment, enhancing their technical and communication skills.
Job Duties
  • Provide front-line technical support via phone, email, and in-person at the Help Desk.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Assist with software installations, updates, and configurations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on computer systems and classroom technology.
  • Log and track support requests using the college's ticketing system.
  • Set up and configure new hardware for faculty, staff, and student labs.
  • Support network connectivity issues including Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
  • Assist IT staff with inventory management and equipment audits.
  • Document solutions and contribute to the internal knowledge base.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in IT support areas.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as a student at IWCC in an IT-related program (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Administration).
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows/macOS), and common software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry computer equipment and peripherals weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching to access equipment and workstations.
