Job description

Job Title: Software Project Manager
Location: HYBRID
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required. Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one (sponsorship available).
Position Summary
We are seeking a Software Project Manager to lead the design and development of a new vertical product capability.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will manage both people and technical projects, drive software engineering efforts, and serve as the primary technical lead for delivering modular, open-architecture capabilities aligned with required standards. You will blend deep software engineering expertise with strong project management and people leadership skills to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Software Engineering Lead the end-to-end design, architecture, development, integration, and testing of software components for the new CMFF-aligned capability. Apply modern software engineering methodologies (Agile/DevSecOps preferred) while ensuring compliance with modular open systems standards.
  • Project & Program Management Navigate the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements reviews, design reviews, readiness assessments, and delivery of technical milestones.
  • People Leadership Directly manage a team of software engineers and technical contributors. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture in a small-company environment.
  • Innovation & Delivery Drive Capability Development for the new vertical product, enabling rapid integration and plug-and-play functionality in mounted platforms.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 5-8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and technical project leadership, with at least 3-5 years managing people and projects in a federal/defense contracting environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on background in software development including expert proficiency in C++ and Linux. Proven experience applying technical coding/engineering methodologies in complex systems.
  • CMFF / Modular Systems: Familiarity with or ability to quickly ramp up on CMOSS Mounted Form Factor (CMFF), open architecture standards, and C5ISR/EW capabilities is highly desired.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (required) or Master's degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Clearance: U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with CMOSS/CMFF, Army C5ISR programs, or modular open systems architectures.
  • Prior work on government-funded development efforts (especially Army PEO C3N or similar).
  • Experience in small business prime contractor environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading technical projects with Integrated Master Schedules (MS Project or Primavera), formal risk management, and government milestone reviews.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical (executive/government) audiences.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Hybrid work environment (work-at-home and in-office)
  • This position may require occasional extended work hours to meet project/customer goals and travel in support of the contract or project is possible (10-15%)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The employee must be able to work on a computer workstation for extended periods of time requiring the ability to hear, have visual acuity, and have manual dexterity. This position is an office-based position with some travel and potential lifting of 10-15 pounds for equipment moving and set up in support of the role.

  • Leadership position with 3-5 direct engineer reports expected for this role.

Software Project Manager Hiring Range: $102,500 - $135,000
