How does working in an SMB (Small and Medium Business) environment differ from larger organizations in terms of team dynamics and daily responsibilities?

In an SMB setting, employees often wear multiple hats and collaborate closely across departments, which can provide a diverse range of experiences and responsibilities. The work environment tends to be more agile, with quicker decision-making and direct access to leadership. This structure allows for greater visibility, opportunities to take initiative, and faster career growth, but may also mean facing challenges such as limited resources and the need to adapt quickly to change. Team members are typically expected to be proactive, flexible, and open to continuous learning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SMB (Small and Medium-sized Business) Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SMB Manager, you need strong business acumen, financial management skills, and a background in business administration or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms, accounting software like QuickBooks, and data analytics tools is typically required. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help navigate team dynamics and customer relationships. These competencies are crucial for driving business growth, optimizing operations, and maintaining a competitive edge in dynamic markets.

What are SMBs?

SMB stands for Small and Medium-sized Businesses. These organizations typically have a limited number of employees and annual revenue compared to larger enterprises. In most regions, small businesses have fewer than 100 employees, while medium-sized businesses can have up to 999 employees. SMBs play a vital role in the economy by creating jobs, fostering innovation, and contributing to local communities. The specific definition of SMB can vary depending on the country or industry.

Fractional Law Firm Recruiter (Full Time Role)

SMB Team

Philadelphia, PA

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Do you enjoy working with multiple clients at once? Do you believe recruiting isn't about filling jobs-it's about building companies by finding A-Players who stay and succeed?

If you're tired of being measured by placements instead of long-term hiring success, keep reading.

SMB Team is seeking an internal, FULL TIME HIRE who can serve as a Fractional Recruiter to our portfolio of law firm owner clients. This is a hands-on, client-facing role. The purpose of this role is to act as an extension of the client law firm - leading full-cycle recruiting across all roles (attorneys, paralegals, administrative, and operations staff) to find A-Player talent, without the commission-driven bias of a traditional agency recruiter.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

An opportunity to be a part of the #1 Fastest Growing Legal Marketing & Coaching Company in the U.S.

BENEFITS - We pay for 75% of your Medical, Dental, Vision insurance for YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

FLEXIBLE VACATION TIME - We encourage you to take time to recharge so you can be your best here at work.

EDUCATION - Team member education and learning budget on courses, events and books.

INVESTMENTS - 401(k) with a 3% Match.

WORK STYLE - WFH or come to the office. The choice is yours!

The salary for this role is $90,000 with additional bonus potential up to $30,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own full-cycle recruiting for assigned client law firms across all roles - attorneys, paralegals, administrative, and operations staff
  • Partner with client stakeholders (CEO, Managing Partner, COO, Office Manager) to build the job blueprint & job description before sourcing begins, ensuring alignment on the role, comp, and non-negotiables
  • Source, screen, and present a shortlist of qualified candidates using SMB Team's structured hiring methodology (scorecards, structured interviews, PI/behavioral assessments)
  • Manage the candidate pipeline and communication end-to-end, providing clients a weekly search-status update
  • Support offer structuring and negotiation on behalf of the client, ensuring compensation is realistic and competitive for a small/mid-sized firms
  • Track and report recruiting KPIs (time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, quality-of-hire, retention) to both the client and SMB Team leadership
  • Assist and support internal recruiting as needed

Requirements

  • 3+ years of recruiting experience with a demonstrated mix of agency and in-house recruiting (will consider candidates with just one but those with both will be given preference)
  • Proven track record recruiting for small-to-mid-sized businesses
  • Experience recruiting across multiple role types (professional, administrative, operations), not a single specialty
  • Working knowledge of the business cost of a bad hire, and the discipline to prioritize fit and long-term retention over speed-to-close while still maintaining hiring velocity
  • Strong consultative and stakeholder-management skills; comfortable operating as a trusted advisor to firm owners and Managing Partners, not a transactional vendor; including driving a processes/deadlines with client deliverables
  • Demonstrated process discipline - follows a structured hiring methodology rather than an intuition-only approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication - represents SMB Team directly to clients and candidates.
  • Legal recruiting experience preferred by not required
  • Client-first orientation: optimizes for the hiring firm's long-term success, not for maximizing placement fees or speed
  • Must have proven success in outbound recruiting (not just hiring through in-bound applicants).
  • Must have experience recruiting for a minimum of 5 roles at a given time, ideally 10+.
  • Must have above average technical abilities and proven success using technology and AI
