Senior Consultant, Mergers & Acquisitions (Merger & Carve-out Services)

West Monroe

Chicago, IL • On-site

Full-time

Posted 8 days ago

Job description

West Monroe is seeking a Senior Consultant to join our growing Merger & Carve-out Services (MCS) team. We help private equity and corporate clients navigate complex mergers, acquisitions, carve-outs, divestitures, and integrations by combining deep transaction experience with technology, operational, and financial expertise.

As a Senior Consultant, you will work across the transaction lifecycle-from diligence and separation planning through Day 1 readiness and post-close execution-to help clients reduce execution risk, accelerate value realization, and build stronger standalone businesses. You'll partner with cross-functional client stakeholders to solve complex challenges, develop data-driven recommendations, and deliver measurable business outcomes. You'll also contribute to the continued growth of our M&A practice through business development, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.

What You Will Do

  • Support buy-side and sell-side merger, integration, and carve-out engagements for private equity and corporate clients across multiple industries.
  • Develop standalone operating cost models, one-time separation cost estimates, synergy analyses, and technology financial models to support investment decisions and transaction execution.
  • Analyze business applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, and technology operating models to assess risks, identify value creation opportunities, and develop integration or separation recommendations.
  • Support the planning, design, negotiation, and execution of Transition Services Agreements (TSAs), standalone operating models, and Day 1 readiness activities.
  • Lead technology workstreams across post-close merger and carve-out programs while managing project plans, risks, dependencies, budgets, and executive reporting.
  • Identify and document business, process, technology, contractual, and organizational entanglements to support successful separations and integrations.
  • Facilitate client workshops, present recommendations to executive stakeholders, and translate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights.
  • Leverage West Monroe's proprietary methodologies, accelerators, and Intellio assets to improve planning, governance, collaboration, and transaction execution.
  • Contribute to proposals, statements of work, client pursuits, and thought leadership initiatives that strengthen the growth of the M&A practice.
  • Mentor consultants and analysts by providing coaching, knowledge sharing, and quality review of project deliverables.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis, synthesize complex information, and support data-driven recommendations for clients, exercising sound judgment in evaluating outputs.
  • Apply AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation tools, data models) to enhance insights, improve delivery efficiency, and elevate the quality of client outcomes.

What You Will Bring

  • 4+ years of client-facing management consulting, technology consulting, transaction advisory, or IT M&A experience supporting private equity or corporate clients.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, integrations, carve-outs, divestitures, or technology transformation initiatives.
  • Experience developing financial models, standalone cost analyses, synergy assessments, TSA analyses, or technology business cases.
  • Understanding of enterprise business applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, and technology operating models within an M&A environment.
  • Experience managing project workstreams, balancing competing priorities, and delivering high-quality client outcomes in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, financial modeling, and quality assurance skills with experience using tools such as Smartsheet, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with executive stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant certifications such as PMP, LeanIX, Smartsheet, or other project management or technology certifications are a plus.
  • Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into day-to-day workflows to enhance productivity and insight generation, coupled with strong critical thinking to assess accuracy, mitigate bias, and ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Ability to travel 25 to 50%.
  • A commitment to inclusion and diversity, and openness to new ideas and perspectives.
  • Ability to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.
