Both roles are integral to the music industry, but the term 'vocalist' may suggest a higher level of vocal proficiency or professionalism.

What Does a Professional Singer Do?

A professional singer is a vocal performer. In this career, you choose the music genres that suit your voice best, such as country, jazz, pop, or rap, and perform both original and unoriginal compositions. You can find work as a backup singer, solo performer, or singing jingles in the advertisement industry. Your job duties vary significantly based on your specific career. If you are a recording artist, you spend most of your time in the studio and performing to promote your song or record. To thrive as a Singer, you need strong vocal technique, musicality, and often formal training in music or voice. Familiarity with audio recording equipment, music production software, and sometimes knowledge of instruments or sight-reading is highly beneficial. Stage presence, emotional expressiveness, and resilience are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure a singer can deliver consistent, compelling performances and adapt to various musical settings, which is critical for building a sustainable career.
