Job description

Role Overview:

The Shipping Lead plays a key role in supporting daily warehouse and shipping operations while providing leadership to the shipping team. This position works closely with the Warehouse Supervisor to ensure the accurate preparation, documentation, and dispatch of outbound shipments while maintaining compliance with safety, sanitation, and food safety requirements.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires active involvement in dock, warehouse, and freezer operations. The ideal candidate has experience leading shipping teams, coordinating logistics activities, and maintaining inventory accuracy within a fast-paced warehouse environment. Candidates should be comfortable working extended schedules of approximately 50+ hours per week to support operational demands.

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in warehouse, shipping, logistics, or distribution operations.
  • Experience leading, training, or coordinating warehouse personnel preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with inventory management systems, Batchmaster, or similar warehouse software preferred.
  • Knowledge of shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), inventory transactions, and shipment verification processes.
  • Familiarity with forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and warehouse material handling equipment.
  • Understanding of food safety, GMP, FIFO inventory practices, and warehouse sanitation requirements preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and schedules averaging 50+ hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Shipping Operations: Coordinate daily shipping activities to ensure timely and accurate outbound shipments.
  • Train & Support Team Members: Provide training on shipping procedures, inventory handling, GMP compliance, safety practices, and documentation requirements.
  • Manage Workflow: Organize staffing, equipment, and dock activities to maximize productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor Inventory: Track inventory levels, coordinate order fulfillment, and communicate shortages or discrepancies to Customer Service.
  • Coordinate Transportation Activities: Manage driver check-in/check-out procedures, assign dock doors, and support loading activities.
  • Maintain Shipping Documentation: Complete and verify Bills of Lading (BOLs), shipment records, seal documentation, and inventory transactions.
  • Ensure Inventory Accuracy: Record inventory movement through Batchmaster or other inventory management systems.
  • Support Food Safety Compliance: Enforce FIFO practices, allergen segregation, lot traceability, temperature monitoring, and sanitation requirements.
  • Maintain Facility Standards: Ensure warehouse, dock, freezer, and storage areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with company standards.
  • Oversee Equipment Usage: Promote safe operation, storage, charging, and maintenance of forklifts, pallet jacks, and warehouse equipment.
  • Provide Operational Coverage: Assist with Desk Clerk responsibilities during breaks, lunches, or operational needs.
  • Promote Safety Standards: Support compliance with company safety policies, food safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
