Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Shipping Manager, the Shipping Lead provides leadership and direction to Shipping associates, including shift planning and delegation of assignment. Additionally, the Shipping Lead is responsible for completing the work of a Shipping Warehouse Associate. The Shipping Lead is expected to have strong communication skills with the shipping team and other departments at AWBC. Working collaboratively with the Shipping Manager, the Shipping Lead assists in ensuring that operations align with company-wide strategies and initiatives.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Provide direction and daily work delegation to Shipping associates
โ€ข Strong communication skills that foster a positive work environment
โ€ข Ensure that operations are aligned and performed to achieve Shipping key performance indicators including productivity, quality, and safety
โ€ข Monitor work processes to determine how current processes could be improved from a productivity, quality, or safety perspective
โ€ข Monitor work of the department to ensure business goals are met
โ€ข Perform end of shift wrap up - ensure all trailers are accurately loaded; ensure working/charged jacks and seals are placed on each trailer
โ€ข Perform daily audit of pallet jacks and trailers
โ€ข Ability to generate and send daily reports
โ€ข Serve as back up to Shipping Manager, as needed
โ€ข Perform all shipping functions including but not limited to sorting, stacking, carrying, and moving product, scanning product, and loading product onto trailers for accurate, on time delivery to customers.
โ€ข Operate shrink wrap machine according to standards
โ€ข Move product using a forklift or other PIT equipment
โ€ข Responsible for following and promoting all safety rules, regulations and guidelines
โ€ข Demonstrate and promote behavior that supports AWBC's core values
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned, including work in variable locations
Requirements
Education and Experience
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent
โ€ข 1 year of related warehouse operations experience
โ€ข Prior leadership experience strongly preferred
Skills
โ€ข Proven ability to lead work teams successfully, while displaying core leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Forklift certified or become forklift certified and be able to retain certification
  • Good problem-solving skills

โ€ข Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office and Outlook)
โ€ข Excellent time management skills
โ€ข Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with the shipping team, other departments, management, senior management, and corporate office personnel
โ€ข Ability to make on the spot decisions based on training and experience
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Willing and able to work variable hours, potentially more than 40 in a week, to accommodate business needs.
  • Stand for long period of time, up to 4 continuous hours, 8 - 12 hours during a shift
  • Walking 4 to 6 miles a day.
  • Operate required equipment and repetitive motion activities
  • Lift objects up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Bend, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job
  • Effective, clear and proficient verbal and written communication skills, including reading and writing
