Warehouse Team Lead

Shipping Lead Tasks & Duties

• Lead all outbound shipping operations to ensure customer orders are shipped accurately, on time, and in compliance with company standards.

• Coordinate daily shipping schedules with Production, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Transportation teams to meet customer delivery requirements.

• Manage inbound and outbound truck activity, dock assignments, loading schedules, and carrier appointments.

• Monitor truck arrival and departure times while maintaining efficient dock utilization and minimizing carrier wait times.

• Track and communicate trailer status, shipment readiness, and loading priorities to ensure on-time departures.

• Troubleshoot shipping delays, missed shipments, inventory discrepancies, transportation issues, and system-related shipment errors.

• Investigate and resolve shipment exceptions, including short shipments, overages, damaged freight, incorrect documentation, carrier issues, and customer complaints.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers, drivers, warehouse personnel, and production teams regarding shipment status and loading priorities.

• Process and verify Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing slips, shipping labels, manifests, freight documentation, and shipment confirmations.

• Ensure all shipping documentation is accurate and complete before releasing shipments.

• Utilize SAP and ERP systems to process shipments, inventory movements, goods issues, production transfers, and shipping transactions.

• Perform inventory transactions and shipping activities using SAP Transaction Codes (T-Codes).

• Reconcile inventory discrepancies between physical inventory and system inventory.

• Monitor shipment status throughout the shipping lifecycle and proactively address potential service failures.

• Review shipping metrics including truck turnaround times, dock utilization, on-time shipment performance, inventory accuracy, and transportation costs.

• Generate and analyze reports using Microsoft Excel to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.

• Train, coach, and develop shipping personnel while ensuring compliance with company procedures and safety standards.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on shipping efficiency, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

• Ensure compliance with DOT, customer, carrier, and company shipping requirements.

Shipping Lead Qualifications (Requirements/Skills)

This is a highly technical shipping leadership position. Candidates must have hands-on experience managing shipping operations from shipment creation through carrier departure.

• Minimum 3 years of Shipping Lead, Logistics Lead, Distribution Lead, Shipping Supervisor, or Transportation Coordinator experience.

• Strong understanding of the complete shipping process, including shipment planning, order fulfillment, freight documentation, carrier scheduling, loading operations, shipment confirmation, and inventory reconciliation.

• Advanced ERP experience required.

• SAP experience required.

• Must be proficient with SAP Transaction Codes (T-Codes) and understand inventory, warehouse, and shipping transactions.

• Strong understanding of Bills of Lading (BOLs), shipping manifests, packing lists, freight documentation, and transportation paperwork.

• Experience troubleshooting shipment-related issues and identifying root causes of shipping delays.

• Ability to manage dock schedules, carrier appointments, truck arrivals, loading priorities, and shipment deadlines.

• Experience monitoring and improving truck turnaround times and carrier detention performance.

• Strong understanding of inventory control, inventory reconciliation, cycle counts, and warehouse management processes.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, filtering, reporting, and data analysis.

• Experience working in high-volume manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environments.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with drivers, carriers, warehouse personnel, production teams, and management.
