About Normal NOW

Normal NOW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, civic engagement, education, and community empowerment. Through advocacy, community programming, voter engagement, and leadership development, we strive to create opportunities for women and families to engage, lead, and thrive.

We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Engagement & Nonprofit Operations Intern to support our mission while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, event planning, advocacy, communications, and organizational operations.

Position Summary

The Community Engagement & Nonprofit Operations Intern will work closely with Normal NOW leadership to support community outreach efforts, membership engagement, volunteer coordination, special events, and day-to-day organizational operations. This internship offers meaningful real-world experience for students interested in nonprofit management, public service, communications, and community leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Engagement

  • Assist with member recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities.
  • Coordinate communications with volunteers and community supporters.
  • Support outreach efforts with local organizations, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Participate in voter registration, advocacy, and civic engagement initiatives.
  • Help increase awareness of Normal NOW programs, events, and mission.

Event Planning & Program Support

  • Assist in planning and executing community events, educational programs, and fundraising activities.
  • Coordinate logistics, registrations, materials, and volunteer schedules.
  • Support sponsor, vendor, and participant communication.
  • Attend and assist with event setup, execution, and post-event evaluation.

Operations & Administration

  • Maintain membership databases and organizational records.
  • Assist with tracking sponsorships, donations, and community partnerships.
  • Help organize procedures, documents, reports, and project materials.
  • Support special projects and operational initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in committee meetings and organizational planning efforts as appropriate.

Communications & Marketing

  • Draft and schedule social media content.
  • Assist with newsletters, email communications, and promotional materials.
  • Create content that highlights organizational impact, programs, and events.
  • Help collect engagement data and support reporting efforts.

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree program at an accredited college or university.
  • Strong interest in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, civic participation, women's advocacy, or public service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
