Job Purpose

The Senior Technical Editor supports the Honda Power Sports & Products Division with the development of owner's manuals, service manuals, technical publications, internal support documents, and submission of various service publications used by American Honda, Honda dealerships, and Honda customers. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, consistency, and usability of complex technical content. This role partners closely with technical writers, engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and stakeholders to review, edit, and approve technical documentation in accordance with established style guides, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Technical Editor also provides editorial leadership, mentors junior editors and writers, and helps evolve documentation standards and processes across the organization.

Key Accountabilities
  • Technical Writing/Production: Produce technical service documentation. Write, edit, and validate service publications. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet publication release deadlines. 
  • Edit and review complex technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and consistency, including manuals, procedures, service documentation, and reference materials.
  • Ensure all content adheres to approved style guides, formatting standards, and documentation guidelines.
  • Verify technical accuracy by coordinating with engineers, SMEs, and reviewers and resolving editorial or content issues.
  • Enforce document control, versioning, and approval processes throughout the publication lifecycle.
  • Management of campaign launch materials, outside vendors, and publication revisions.
  • Support unit lead with supervision of cost center activities and projects to stay within established budget.
  • Develop associates through performance planning processes.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • 5yrs experience editing technical documentation in an engineering, manufacturing, software, or regulated environment. 
  • 3yrs in the Powersport, Power Equipment, or Marine industry experience editing technical documentation in an engineering, manufacturing, software, or regulated environment. 
  • Strong ability to interpret technical concepts and communicate them clearly to varied audiences. 
  • Proficient with Adobe FrameMaker® and other Adobe Creative Cloud software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat
  • A strong working knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, electric motors/circuits/batteries, power equipment/motorcycles/ATV/marine outboard engines
  • Experience with using owner’s manuals, service manuals, and having a general working knowledge of mechanical hand, specialty, and diagnostic tools
  • Through knowledge of writing, practices, and procedures from start to the completion of difficult projects
  • Excellent multi-tasking, technical accuracy, and editorial judgment
  • Collaboration and stakeholder communication with conflict resolution skills
  • Sound knowledge of Powersports and Power Equipment market action processes
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to operate with a high level of confidentiality

  • General working time is daily, 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, in an office environment
  • 5% travel to coach and mentor associates at SCM facility, participate in trade shows, conferences, etc.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. to assist with the receiving of printed manuals/materials
  • Position is located at the Alpharetta, GA PS&P office
