Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer with strong experience in plastic injection molding to support manufacturing operations, improve production processes, troubleshoot equipment and quality issues, and drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a Molding/Process Technician, Die Setter, or Injection Molding Specialist and be comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor.

A technical or engineering degree is highly preferred but not required for candidates with strong hands-on experience in injection molding and process engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain injection molding processes to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot injection molding machines, processing issues, tooling, and production defects.

  • Perform machine startup, shutdown, setup, and process adjustments.

  • Establish and verify molding parameters to ensure consistent product quality.

  • Review first-piece/first-shot and last-piece production against established quality standards.

  • Identify root causes of quality and production issues and implement effective countermeasures.

  • Support new product launches, tooling, fixtures, and process development activities.

  • Program, set up, and troubleshoot industrial robots used in injection molding operations.

  • Build, modify, and support end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for robotic applications.

  • Assist with mold/tool setup, preventive maintenance, tear-down, cleaning, and rebuild activities as needed.

  • Develop and implement process improvements, work instructions, and standardized operating procedures.

  • Support secondary operations, fixtures, and automated manufacturing processes.

  • Monitor scrap, downtime, cycle times, and other key production metrics and develop improvement plans.

  • Conduct time studies and evaluate machine/work-cell efficiency.

  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Work closely with Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, Production, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.

  • Support corrective and preventive actions related to internal and customer quality concerns.

  • Assist with training production personnel on processes, equipment, and quality requirements.

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with safety and quality standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on experience with plastic injection molding.

  • Experience in a Process Technician, Molding Technician, Process Engineer, Die Setter, or similar manufacturing role.

  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, machine setup, startup/shutdown, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience identifying and correcting molding defects and machine/process issues.

  • Experience with robotic systems used in injection molding/manufacturing.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize molding processes and production equipment.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing quality and production requirements.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or continuous improvement practices.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.

  • Engineering degree is preferred but may be substituted by significant hands-on molding/process technician experience.

  • Experience with robot programming and setup.

  • Experience designing, building, or modifying end-of-arm tooling.

  • Experience with molds, dies, tooling, fixtures, and preventive maintenance.

  • Experience with process documentation, work instructions, and quality procedures.

  • Experience conducting time studies, cycle-time improvements, and scrap reduction.

  • Supervisory or team-lead experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
