How much do statistical process control jobs pay per year?
What is statistical process control?
A Statistical Process Control (SPC) job involves monitoring and improving manufacturing or business processes using statistical methods. SPC professionals collect and analyze data to detect variations, identify root causes, and ensure process stability and efficiency. They use control charts, process capability analysis, and other tools to maintain quality standards. Their goal is to reduce defects, minimize waste, and improve overall performance.
What are the typical daily responsibilities for someone working in statistical process control?
In a Statistical Process Control role, your day-to-day tasks often include collecting and analyzing production data, generating control charts, and identifying trends or deviations in process performance. You will frequently collaborate with production teams and engineers to investigate causes of process variation and recommend improvements. Preparing detailed reports, conducting root cause analyses, and supporting quality audits are also common aspects of the job. This role requires a blend of technical analysis and hands-on engagement with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent product quality and efficient manufacturing operations.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in statistical process control, and why are they important?
To thrive in Statistical Process Control, a strong background in statistics, data analysis, and industrial process optimization—often supported by a degree in engineering, mathematics, or related fields—is essential. Familiarity with statistical software (such as Minitab, JMP, or SPSS), process monitoring tools, and industry certifications like Six Sigma are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set standout professionals apart in this role. These abilities are crucial for accurately monitoring production quality, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring process stability in manufacturing environments.

- Define the short and long term goals and vision for each process (Hoshin) to ensure compliance, improve control, reduce scrap and rework, improve cost, and support operations.
- Set performance measures and KPIs for Process Owners, tracking progress against productivity and quality goals.
- Define KOVs and KIVs for each process and drive improvement to reduce scrap and rework across the product lines.
- Grow the utilization of data science and AI for process control.
- Act as the overall authority for process control, ensuring all manufacturing steps adhere to engineering requirements and AS9100/NADCAP compliance.
- Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) and real-time monitoring to ensure process stability.
- Drive down scrap and rework rates by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Lead and support capex projects from concept though production release.
- Lead process improvement projects (Scrap/Rework Reduction, Cost Reduction, Cycle Time Reduction) using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Support the transition from traditional manufacturing to advanced methods.
- Develop business continuity plans for plant equipment and process readiness.
