JOB SPECIFICS
Washington County is looking for a Library Services Supervisor to guide staff in meeting the needs of a diverse and growing community. The ideal candidate is a strong and supportive leader, a technology champion, and an experienced library professional who understands the significance of circulation services in a public library setting. Daily responsibilities include supervising library services staff, providing library customer service, contributing to efficient day-to-day library operations, and performing financial transactions. As a library leader, you will work with a team of managers and supervisors to support our mission to inspire curiosity, champion innovation, and spark curiosity.

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
HOURS / DAYS: Forty (40) hours per week which requires a combination of daytime, evening and weekend hours. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $30.29 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY
The Library Services Supervisor is an entry level position supervising library services assistants, volunteers and others involved in circulation, customer registration and accounts, collections maintenance and shelving activities.
This class differs from the Library Services Supervisor, Senior position in that employees at entry level are gaining relevant supervisor experience to perform work at a higher level of independence and complexity in providing library services and learning broader scope of library operations.
EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of office, technical, library, or customer service experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for up to two years of required experience.
OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCEMENT: To advance to Library Services Supervisor, Senior, the employee must maintain an annual performance level of at least "benchmark or better" in all evaluation areas for a minimum period of one year, no disciplinary actions in previous 12 months and have demonstrated work performance at a higher level of independence and decision-making. Promotion is not automatic; it is based on the individual's ability to demonstrate competencies in experience, knowledge, skills and abilities in addition to the manager's recommendation. A Library Services Supervisor may be eligible for promotion after 12 months.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise library services staff at libraries:
  • Interview and make new staff recommendations
  • Orient and train staff
  • Interpret and communicate policies, rules and regulations
  • Create work schedules, monitor workflow and modify work assignments as needed
  • Investigate allegations or suspicion of employee misconduct, make disciplinary recommendations
  • Manage employee issues that affect customer service
  • Conduct performance reviews
Provide Library customer service:
  • Explain basic Library policies
  • Respond to all requests for Library services
  • Provide self-check-out, computer, printer and copier services information and instruction
  • Direct customers to librarians for research assistance
  • Perform circulation tasks
  • Develop procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment for both patrons and staff
  • Respond to customer escalations
Contribute to efficient day-to-day Library operations:
  • Complete Library card registration process
  • Update customer records in Library information system
  • Pack and unpack delivery bins
  • Resolve issues to avoid inefficient operations and insufficient resource allocation
  • Prepare reports to document service demands, peak demand periods and staff needs
  • Examine requests for new or revised support services and evaluate impact of new procedures
  • Assists and collaborates with manager in developing or revising policies and procedures, review service providers, and address any concerns
  • Assists in budget preparation.
  • Assists with evaluation of new hardware and software.
  • Assists in coordinating implementation of new technologies, system maintenance or enhancements
Perform financial transactions:
  • Assess returned materials and determine if damage fees apply
  • Determine lost materials fees and collect fines
  • Resolve problems with customer's Library records
  • Perform revenue receipting procedures
  • Collect printing and photocopying fees
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is semi-sedentary in nature, and typically performed within a Library. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, and microfiche reader, cash register, photocopier and scanner.
Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details. Driving or riding to attend meetings, participate in or lead training sessions, etc. may be required.
