Collins Aerospace has an immediate need for Senior Component Engineer within the supply chain engineering team. This Engineer will assume the role of a Product Component Engineer (PCE) which serves as the technical resource to Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Procurement, Obsolescence, Quality, and Supply Chain. A successful candidate will support all component lifecycle needs for programs (electrical, mechanical, materials, process specifications, etc) and work with the Collins Component Engineering Team for expert-level support as needed. A PCE is involved in the product design from New Product Introduction (NPI) to design obsolescence, improving the overall component health and producibility of the product.
Specific responsibilities may include consultation with design engineering on part selection, qualification of components, performing root cause investigation and corrective action implementation, addressing part shortages and obsolescence, and technology roadmap management.
This role may be based in Cedar Rapids, IA , Richardson, TX, Colorado Springs, CO or Windsor Locks, CT
What You Will Do:
  • Understand preferred technologies, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria for commodities used on assigned programs.
  • Apply techniques for the documentation and release of components, processes, and design guidelines associated with assigned programs.
  • Review Bills of Materials (BOM) to ensure maximum health (technology, life cycle, source of supply, etc)
  • Perform Failure and Root Cause Analysis and corrective action on assigned programs.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend new components or materials and manufacturers for new product requirements and for improving existing manufacturing process yields.
  • Analyze parametric data, preference codes, and obsolescence prediction data for components in assigned programs.
  • General technical support including activities associated with Bidding/Negotiating, Data Collection, and Analysis. Report Generation related to technical issues including but not limited to; Hazardous Material, fungus, shelf life, ESD, flammability, etc.
  • Connect design teams with Producibility and Design to Cost Functions to achieve minimum cost and optimal performance in Collins designs.
  • Take ownership of all regional parts related to local programs.
  • Use technical knowledge and skills to lead projects.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 10%

Provide technical assistance for programs related to:
  • Material verification resolution
  • Specification or drawing exceptions
  • Supplier Chain issues
  • Manufacturing related issues

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance Ability to hold a TOP SECRET DoD Clearance
  • 3+ years of experience interpreting engineering drawings and vendor component data sheets
  • 2+ years of experience working with component obsolescence
  • Knowledge of electrical principles and electronic components

  • Active SECRET DoD clearance with ability to obtain Top-Secret
  • Understand and follow processes and procedures for component management
  • Ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and confidence in communicating with others to understand problems and work towards solutions.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
