This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer - Design System based in Netherlands.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer specializing in Design Systems, you will play a key role in building and evolving the shared UI foundation that powers multiple products. Working in a remote-first, collaborative engineering environment, you will create scalable, accessible, and developer-friendly frontend components while helping shape the future of AI-assisted interface development. This is a hands-on role where you'll influence technical direction, improve developer experience, and collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers. If you're passionate about frontend architecture, design systems, accessibility, and modern web technologies, this opportunity offers the chance to make a lasting impact on products used by organizations around the world.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain a scalable design system including reusable UI components, design tokens, documentation, and supporting tooling.
  • Build high-quality frontend components using React and TypeScript while ensuring performance, maintainability, and consistency.
  • Extend the design system to support AI-assisted development through machine-readable interfaces, documentation, and modern tooling.
  • Design intuitive component APIs that encourage correct implementation and simplify adoption across engineering teams.
  • Partner with designers, product managers, and software engineers to deliver production-ready components that meet both technical and user experience goals.
  • Ensure accessibility standards are embedded throughout the design system, following WCAG 2.2 AA best practices.
  • Improve developer experience through clear documentation, versioning strategies, Storybook integration, and seamless migration paths.
  • Implement and maintain theming, localization, right-to-left (RTL) support, and multi-brand capabilities.
  • Monitor design system adoption, gather feedback, and continuously improve the platform based on engineering and product needs.
  • Contribute to defining the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the organization's frontend design system.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior frontend engineering role.
  • Proven experience building, maintaining, and owning design systems or shared component libraries across multiple products.
  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
  • Strong understanding of component architecture, API design, versioning, and developer experience best practices.
  • Experience with modern frontend tooling and documentation platforms such as Storybook.
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted development workflows or a strong interest in building frontend systems optimized for AI-powered tools.
  • Solid understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and frontend performance optimization.
  • Practical experience implementing accessible interfaces that comply with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with multi-brand theming, localization, internationalization, or right-to-left language support is considered an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for delivering polished, scalable user interfaces.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary starting from EUR/GBP/CHF 120,000, depending on location.
  • Equity participation through a stock option plan.
  • Fully remote work available across eligible European locations, with flexible location options.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus local public holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI technologies and next-generation frontend platforms.
  • Collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Opportunity to shape the technical direction of a widely adopted design system.
  • Exposure to large-scale, international products serving enterprise customers worldwide.
  • Professional growth through close collaboration with experienced engineers, designers, and product leaders.
