Job Description
Position Summary:
Working with a dedicated sensor engineering team, the Sensor Component Engineer is globally responsible for a subset of sensor technologies, as well as, provides engineering support to maintain existing Sensor component families. This individual will be responsible and support from a hardware standpoint sub system and system and application engineering and design analysis functions within three major areas of concentration: agricultural, construction, and commercial vehicles. The individual will report into a global team with overall sensor responsibility for the company's sensor technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Responsible to perform product development, component engineering activities toward the research, development and co-development of sensors, typically using a strategic subset of supply partners,
• Responsible and contributes to the design of existing and/or new sensor components,
• Responsible for evaluations, assessments and recommendations for robustness levels on sensor components within company specified standards,
• Responsible and contributes in establishing test plans, end of line requirements and validation requirements for sensor components, in addition to their overall design,
• Contributes to the ongoing evolution and continuous improvement of sensor components, as well as, test procedure and standardization for sensor components ,
• Responsible for technology roadmaps of sensor components,
• Responsible for standardization of common sensor components covering all sectors of business, promoting commonization of components, proliferance of part numbers
• Responsible for administering and owning all related Engineering Change Requests and Orders with both internal company systems and external supplier systems,
• Participate in problem resolutions of sensor components utilizing industry known best practices such as 8D, and 5Why,
• Contributes in recommendations to applications and systems team on best in class utilization of sensor components,
• Responsible for preparation of designs, layouts and drawings for sensor component hardware developed and/or improved,
• Supports application, sys system and system engineering teams with preparation of reports,
• Responsible in the facilitation of communication between engineering, manufacturing, quality and other functional areas within multi-disciplinary product development team environments,
• Responsible for Design Of Experiments and Design Validation testing, as well as, the recognition and recommendation of design and validation gaps covering existing Off The Self sensor technologies and custom developed sensor hardware,
• Responsible for the technical liaison with suppliers,
• Responsible for internal customer satisfaction, documenting processes and best practices as well as reviewing detailed engineering drawings and releasing parts production procurement for global operations,
• Responsible for recommendation and implementation of test equipment, disassemble experimental components, oversight of corrective actions and ownership in determining the cause of failures and/or travel to supplier sites as needed to facilitate communication between engineering and suppliers,
• Responsible for the reporting and implementation of improvements to product engineering teams for execution based on knowledge gained through cross-functional interactions at the suppliers,
• Responsible for the coordination of sensor projects and their progress, interfacing regularly with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and compliance to company requirements, specifications, standards and 2D/3D engineering documentation, interacting directly with interval customer agreeing on packaging constraints and technical requirements as well as drive required timing of delivery,
Skill Set
The qualified candidate will have: • A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering • A minimum of at 6 years' engineering experience with a minimum of 4 years concentrated in sensor product development. • Possess the ability to deploy sensor technologies and hardware solutions to resolve complex system issues and improve vehicle level products. • Possess the ability to react and provide potential solutions based on information received and be able to rectify and support the complete receipt of information that is less than sufficient. • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage and correspond with global network of teams, colleagues and interfaces in which English may be a second language. • Possess the ability to appropriately administer and deliver communication and updates to various level within the organization up to but not limited to section Vice President. • Possess the ability, knowledge and experience to interact, mentor and manage colleagues from various locations, regions and business sectors. • Possess the ability to delegate activities, work, and requests to other work colleagues within and external to functional and reporting group. Preferred Qualifications: • OEM experience or Tier 1 experience preferred but not required. • Sensor technologies covering wide variety of sensing applications and Medias, • Specific sensor technologies of emphasis include: Receiving, transmitting technology (imaging, acoustic, wireless, high speed, other), • Specific and demonstrated experience minimally needed on: Temperature sensing, (Thermistors, thermocouples, RTD's), Pressure sensing (Fiber optic, vacuum, LVDT, electronic, pressure), Flow sensing (Electromagnetic, differential pressure, positional displacement, thermal mass), Level Sensors (Differential pressure, ultrasonic radio frequency, radar, thermal displacement), Proximity and displacement (LVDT, photoelectric, capacitive, magnetic, ultrasonic), Image sensing (Charge coupled devices, CMOS), Gas and chemical sensing (Semiconductor, Infrared, Conductance, Electrochemical), Acceleration sensing (Gyroscopes, Accelerometers), Other type sensing (Moisture, humidity, speed, mass, tilt, force, viscosity, and others), • Possess In-depth knowledge of sensor technologies, theories and best practice approaches in mechanical and electrical interfacing, as well as, in depth knowledge of sensor component construction and design for manufacturability and robustness. • Possess the ability to understand and be able to apply the propose sensing technology in order to provide additional feature content, benefit advantage, and overall benefit to the vehicle application. • Possess the knowledge to devise sensor solutions based on application level information received. • Communication skills in foreign languages with Italian preferred but not required. • Experience in these types of Applications: Autonomous Machine Control (on and off road), Interior Cab Active Noise Control, Advanced Sensing, Monitoring, Distribution and Flow Control in Agricultural Applications, Weight Load Systems, Roll over Air Bag protection, Central / Adaptive Tire Inflation, Machine Precision Guidance Please forward your resume to Tammy Singleton at tammy.singleton@panarogroup.com for consideration
