Senior Mechanical Engineer (Hybrid)
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a fully competent engineering professional responsible for performing complex design work, making independent technical decisions, and applying advanced engineering principles across a variety of building system projects. This role provides technical leadership, mentors junior staff, conducts calculations and system analyses, evaluates equipment and system performance, and represents the firm in meetings requiring coordination across all design disciplines. The Senior Engineer ensures that project designs meet quality standards, client expectations, and engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct complex engineering assignments requiring independent judgment
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review work of Engineers, Designers, and CAD Operators
  • Develop technical reports, studies, and system analyses
  • Evaluate substitute equipment and review system adjustments after installation
  • Represent the firm in meetings and coordinate across all trades
  • Perform engineering designs, calculations, and evaluations with advanced techniques
  • Mentor junior engineers and support project technical leadership

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or related engineering discipline required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) accepted with intent to obtain PE
  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience in building systems design
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex engineering calculations, system analyses, and advanced technical evaluations
  • Experience reviewing system performance, evaluating alternative equipment, and resolving field discrepancies
  • Proven ability to mentor junior engineers, review design work, and provide quality control oversight
  • Strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams including architects, designers, CAD staff, and clients
  • Ability to represent the firm in client meetings, construction discussions, and design reviews
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software, codes, and industry standards

Location: Rochester or Buffalo, NY (Hybrid)
Travel: Up to 15%
Compensation & Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this role is $95,000 - $135,000 USD per year, hourly, non-exempt. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
