Job Description

The Supply Chain Strategic Sourcing Senior Commodity Manager is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, bidding, pricing, supplier selection, and supplier relationship management for the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC), including both operational and capital equipment categories. A key element of this role is to directly interact with OSUWMC stakeholders to create and execute strategic sourcing, capital sourcing, and contract management initiatives. The Senior Commodity Manager will collaborate with Clinical and Administrative Leadership, Project Stakeholders, Capital Planning teams, Finance, and Supply Chain Personnel to lead savings and value optimization projects of significant scope and impact. Collectively, they are responsible for developing and fostering strong business relationships across OSUWMC affiliates.

The Senior Commodity Manager develops and continually updates market intelligence (benchmarking) on key suppliers, emerging technologies, and innovative solutions across both operational and capital equipment markets. This includes evaluating total cost of ownership (TCO), lifecycle costs, service models, and financing structures for capital investments. In addition, this person is responsible for enhancing existing commodity and capital sourcing strategies, developing new strategies, and gaining consensus from cross-functional leaders.

In partnership with Clinical Engineering, Finance, Facilities, and other stakeholders, the Senior Commodity Manager supports the capital sourcing lifecycle, including business case development, RFP/RFQ execution, vendor evaluation, negotiation of pricing and service agreements, and alignment with capital budget priorities.

After contract award, the Senior Commodity Manager owns key supplier relationships within assigned categories-including capital vendors-and develops strategic account plans. They conduct periodic performance and business reviews with suppliers to drive continuous improvement, innovation, cost efficiencies, and service excellence.

The Senior Commodity Manager must have a broad knowledge of products and services within their category, including capital equipment, suppliers, and their offerings. This role requires strong expertise in complex negotiations, contracting structures, and supplier performance management. Senior Commodity Managers are responsible and accountable for more complex, high-spend categories (including capital), and demonstrate leadership, strategic thinking, and cross-functional influence throughout their role.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of leadership experience in strategic sourcing, ideally within the healthcare sector.
