Job description

The Commodity Manager is responsible for managing categories of indirect material in support of HVAC operations.  Engage with business units to establish voice of the customer to seek requirements and to ensure supply base strategies are aligned. Responsible for development and execution of category strategy and ensures the alignment of these strategies with the business and functional stakeholders.  Will conduct or support supplier selection and negotiations. Cross-functional collaboration with business units, multiple functional & business partners; including Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, HR, IT, Finance, etc. Will deliver cost down through contract and service negotiations and supplier continuous improvement.  Also responsible for effective Supplier Relationship Management including the facilitation of Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) with top suppliers and completion of Commodity Playbooks. Responsible for continuity of supply to the business units for assigned categories. Provides Procurement leadership with an annual cost evaluation for all assigned goods and services.  

Position Responsibilities may include; 

  • Responsible for development and execution of short term and long term strategies for assigned categories. 
  • Provide direction and guidance amongst a team of buyers; foster an environment that strives for excellence and is results-oriented.  
  • Lead the commercial strategy in preparing for commercial negotiations.  
  • Maintain ownership of supplier relationships, including performance monitoring, and will manage execution of QBRs. 
  • Development of category strategy documents, and 3 to 5-year growth playbook plans. 
  • Build and support a pipeline of cost savings projects for sustainable year over year productivity, or cost down. 
  • Responsible for weekly executive reporting on all financial cost down projects for assigned categories.  
  • Responsible for execution and reporting of supplier contracts. 
  • Support global synergy efforts for the Indirect materials organization for assigned categories. 
  • Conduct voice of the customer reviews on a regular basis with cross functional business unit leadership and stakeholders. 
  • Creation of preferred supplier list with pre-established rates, where possible, for assigned categories.  
  • Participate in additional projects/activities to support on-going business needs 
  • Participate in additional projects/activities as needed.

  • Ensures work is aligned with the Director’s expectations, goals, and vision 
  • Accountable for implementation of policies, processes, and procedures for short-term results
  • Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance from Senior Manager/Director
  • Works on difficult to moderately complex issues and projects 
  • Provides guidance and training to subordinates
  • Has authority to hire, recommend pay, establish performance and recommend for termination
  • Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent leadership skills; able to envision, develop, direct, manage, delegate responsibility and authority and motivate an organization 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of commodity management / strategic sourcing processes and best practices 
  • Ability to develop and balance both short and long-term strategies 
  • Proficient in MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint – required; Access & Project – preferred 
  • Effective two-way communication and executive presentation skills and professional business acumen 
  • Effective Collaboration, Negotiation and Relationship management skills - interaction with cross-functional teams, internal / external customers and vendors 
  • Project Management processes, methods and applications 
  • Strong Analytical and Quantitative abilities and Problem Solving skills – effective elimination of root cause using a systematic approach 
  • Effective Priority setting and Organizational skills – capable of managing multiple inputs and directions to deliver the desired results 
  • Ability to adjust to operational needs as they arise.  Ability to work under pressure and able to make sound decisions 
  • Ability to apply good Judgement and strong work Ethics and Integrity on the job 
  • High level of attention to detail and compliance oriented with regulations, policies and procedures including safety 

Competency:

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Commodity Management, or Strategic Sourcing role preferably in a high volume-manufacturing environment  
  • 5+ plus years of leadership experience is required 
  • Project Management experience 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Business, Supply Chain,  or related field 

People Management: Yes

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations. Domestic / Foreign travel may be involved – estimated 15%.
