What is a search engine rater?

Search Engine Raters are individuals who evaluate and rate the quality and relevance of search engine results. They help companies like Google and Bing improve their algorithms by providing feedback on how well search results meet user intent. Raters follow detailed guidelines to assess webpages, images, videos, and other content, ensuring search results are useful and accurate. This role typically involves working from home on a flexible schedule and requires attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a search engine rater?

To thrive as a Search Engine Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of web search and internet culture, often supported by a high school diploma or higher. Familiarity with online evaluation tools, search engines, and sometimes proprietary rating guidelines is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and the ability to follow complex instructions set top performers apart. These abilities ensure that search results are accurately evaluated, improving the quality and relevance of information presented to users.

What are some common challenges faced by search engine raters, and how can they be managed?

Search Engine Raters often encounter the challenge of interpreting complex guidelines and applying them consistently across a wide range of search queries and content. Staying up-to-date with frequent updates to these guidelines requires attention to detail and adaptability. Managing productivity within strict deadlines while avoiding repetitive strain can also be difficult. To succeed, it helps to review guideline updates regularly, take scheduled breaks, and engage with available support forums or training resources to clarify uncertainties.

Job description

PostcardMania is a results-driven marketing company dedicated to helping small businesses grow through effective marketing campaigns. We’re proud to be one of Tampa Bay’s Top 100 Workplaces, and as an Inc. 500 marketing powerhouse, we’ve built a team of 400 amazing people and continue to expand our impact. When entrepreneurs want to see real results, they turn to us!

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic, hands‑on SEM Manager to join our internal marketing team and drive growth for our three in‑house brands (PostcardMania, PCM Integrations and Rocket Print & Mail). This role is not client‑facing. You’ll focus exclusively on building, optimizing, and scaling paid and organic search and paid social programs that support our company’s own marketing goals.

If you enjoy owning performance from strategy through execution, testing aggressively, and using data to guide decisions, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and manage Search Engine Marketing across our three internal brands
  • Develop and execute SEO strategies to improve rankings, traffic, and conversion rates
  • Plan, launch, and optimize PPC campaigns across Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, and related platforms
  • Manage and scale paid social advertising across platforms such as Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and others as needed
  • Conduct keyword research, competitive analysis, and ongoing performance optimization
  • Collaborate with internal teams (content, design, web, analytics) to align messaging and landing pages
  • Monitor budgets, bids, and pacing to maximize ROI
  • Track, analyze, and report on performance using analytics tools and dashboards
  • Stay current on platform updates, algorithm changes, and best practices
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in SEM, SEO, and paid media management
  • Proven success managing PPC and paid social campaigns with measurable results
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, technical SEO, and content optimization
  • Experience with tools such as Google Ads, Google Analytics, Search Console, Meta Ads Manager, and SEO platforms (SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar)
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into action
  • Comfortable managing multiple brands simultaneously
  • Self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced marketing environment
Nice to Have
  • Experience marketing B2B services or SaaS
  • Familiarity with conversion rate optimization (CRO) and landing page testing
  • Agency or in‑house marketing experience (or both)
Why You’ll Love This Role
  • Opportunity to directly impact company growth and revenue
  • Freedom to test, iterate, and scale what works
  • Collaborative, creative marketing team
  • Competitive salary and benefits
Requirements
  • 401(k), Short- and Long-Term Disability, Accident & Critical Illness Insurance
  • Paid vacation that increases with tenure
  • Six paid holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas)
  • Free on-site yoga twice a week
  • Free monthly visits from a local chiropractor, plus much more!
