Search Engine Rater information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Search Engine Rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Search Engine Rater, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of web search and internet culture, often supported by a high school diploma or higher. Familiarity with online evaluation tools, search engines, and sometimes proprietary rating guidelines is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and the ability to follow complex instructions set top performers apart. These abilities ensure that search results are accurately evaluated, improving the quality and relevance of information presented to users.

What are some common challenges faced by Search Engine Raters, and how can they be managed?

Search Engine Raters often encounter the challenge of interpreting complex guidelines and applying them consistently across a wide range of search queries and content. Staying up-to-date with frequent updates to these guidelines requires attention to detail and adaptability. Managing productivity within strict deadlines while avoiding repetitive strain can also be difficult. To succeed, it helps to review guideline updates regularly, take scheduled breaks, and engage with available support forums or training resources to clarify uncertainties.

What are Search Engine Raters?

Search Engine Raters are individuals who evaluate and rate the quality and relevance of search engine results. They help companies like Google and Bing improve their algorithms by providing feedback on how well search results meet user intent. Raters follow detailed guidelines to assess webpages, images, videos, and other content, ensuring search results are useful and accurate. This role typically involves working from home on a flexible schedule and requires attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

What You\'ll Do

Strategy & Growth

  • Own and lead RFG\'s organic growth engine, partnering closely with B2B Marketing to define and execute a content strategy that drives qualified pipeline, increases brand visibility, and positions RFG for both traditional search and AI-driven discovery (SEO + AEO).
  • Serve as the central orchestrator of RFG\'s content ecosystem, ensuring content across the website, email, social, podcast, and campaigns is aligned, integrated, and optimized for performance, distribution, and conversion.
  • Lead RFG\'s SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategy, including ownership of tools such as Yoast and Google Search Console; implementation of schema markup and structured content for AI readability; and continuous optimization of content to rank in both traditional search results and AI-generated responses.
  • Own website strategy and performance, including ongoing content updates, UX-informed optimization, and the development of SEO and AEO frameworks that improve indexing, visibility, engagement, and conversion.

Content Creation & Execution

  • Drive end-to-end content strategy, creation, and execution, leveraging AI to scale output, improve efficiency, and modernize content workflows while maintaining brand voice, quality, and compliance.
  • Develop high-impact, conversion-focused copy and content across all channels, including landing pages, email, newsletters, social media, and campaign assets, with a focus on driving measurable action.
  • Partner cross-functionally with the Creative Team to bring content to life across formats including website, video, podcast, and sales enablement materials.

Systems & Tools

  • Act as the HubSpot subject matter expert for content, integrating content strategy directly into campaign execution by managing content calendars and distribution workflows, connecting content performance to campaign, MQL, and pipeline outcomes, and overseeing newsletter curation and distribution.
  • Operate with a builder mindset, proactively identifying gaps and implementing tools, systems, and processes that enable scalable content production and long-term organic growth.

Performance, Compliance & Accountability

  • Own and report on core content KPIs, including impressions, reach, engagement, conversion rates, and pipeline contribution, and continuously iterate strategy based on performance data and insights.
  • Ensure all content meets compliance standards, including proper routing, approvals, and recordkeeping within internal compliance systems.
