Reports to: VP, Controller
Direct Reports: 1
Hybrid: 1 day in office, 4 days remote
As a Payroll Manager, you will:
  • Manage and prepare payroll data to produce an accurate and timely payroll
  • Manage payroll general ledger reporting and monthly accruals
  • Oversee payroll taxes, withholding, and other state compliance payroll items
  • Oversee the processing of unique payroll items such as bonus payouts, corrections, and fringe
  • benefits.
  • Act as a System Administrator and subject matter expert for all payroll-related questions in Right
  • at School's payroll platform
  • Partner with finance, HR, and other teams to create/improve processes around payroll, expenses,
  • and taxes
  • Maintain company and employee records within all Right at School systems
  • Train new managers on how to approve timesheets, manage employee logins, and Right at School
  • payroll policies
  • Answer payroll-related questions from our employees
  • Issue paychecks to all Right at School employees including final paycheck while adhering to Right
  • at School Policies and payroll laws
  • Manage Right at School's 401k and annual 401k audit with help from the VP, Controller
  • Produce Payroll reports & interpret data for management and auditing purposes
  • Ensure Right at School remains in compliance with all payroll-related laws
  • Develop scalable processes related to payroll as we continue to grow

What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years' payroll experience in a professional work environment
  • Someone with critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and strong attention to detail
  • Someone who isn't afraid to ask questions & solve problems creatively
  • Experience processing payroll for hourly and salary employees across multiple states
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) accreditation is a plus, but not required
  • A passionate, life-long learner with a desire to work in a fast-paced growing company
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Active and empathetic listening skills
  • Familiarity with payroll processes, including compliance & tax laws
  • Comfortable with Excel and data interpretation
  • Proven history of process improvement & time-saving efficiencies
