Job description

Overview: The Literacy Coach will provide instructional support and coaching to teachers as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach his or her academic potential. The Literacy Instructional Coach's primary role is to work with teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need.
Employment Schedule: 10 months, full-time
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential functions of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Understands how students learn and provides learning opportunities that support intellectual, social, and personal development of diverse learners
  • Evaluates student progress and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to determine whether students have achieved high standards and modifies instructional strategies as needed to maximize achievement.
  • Coach and support teachers and teams to grow and achieve goals in literacy.
  • Analyze data at student-level, teacher-level and school-level and to identify strengths, opportunities for growth, and curricular and implementation implications.
  • Plan and lead professional development to ensure all stakeholders are set on a path to achieve determined goals.
  • Serve on a team that implements schoolwide literacy priorities, including but not limited to Close Reading, Guided Reading, writing, Foundational Literacy, and ELA curriculum across the program for students in grade K-8.
  • Create strategy for literacy implementation, support, and coaching across teams to reach goals in literacy.
  • Provide lesson planning support and often times complete lesson plans for teams on various literacy themes including but not limited to writing, phonics, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension and vocabulary development.
  • Coach, build relationships, and support team members across the school to ensure strong implementation of literacy programs.
  • Develop, manage, and lead literacy initiative alongside the curriculum specialist across Franklin Academy to innovate and try new programs, structures, and strategies; gather data and artifacts to make programmatic recommendations for further years.
  • Serve as interventionist working with small groups of students to close achievement gaps in line with the school's mission and vision.
  • Provide direct instruction to students who are enrolled in RtI.
  • Works effectively with school colleagues, parents, and the community to support students' learning and well-being.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
  • Actively engages in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Total Possible Compensation Package: $57,187.50

Requirements
  • Strong ability to collect and analyze data to make instructional decisions
  • Strong knowledge in K-8 ELA Florida Standards
  • Strong knowledge of the components of balanced literacy
  • Strong background and familiarity with literacy assessments used with the Franklin Academy network of schools
  • Master teacher in literacy with strong skill in internalizing curriculum and modeling lessons
  • Strong coach of teachers with expertise in observation and feedback
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills including oral presentations, written skills, active listening skills.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and the mission of the school.
  • Establishes excellent interpersonal skills between all constituents: being courteous, professional and, helpful; demonstrates high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Seeks ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. Strives to research, evaluate and implement best practices.
  • Strong track record for analyzing complex problems/issues, identifying patterns and recommending creative solutions.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Possession of or eligibility for valid teaching certification.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check and drug testing.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

Salary Description
$57,187.50
