What is a salaried CPACC?

Salaried CPACC professionals are individuals who have earned the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification and are employed in a salaried position. The CPACC certification, offered by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), demonstrates foundational knowledge of accessibility, including disabilities, accessibility standards, and best practices. Salaried CPACC holders typically work in roles focused on making digital content, technology, and environments accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. Their responsibilities may include accessibility auditing, policy development, and training teams on inclusive practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)?

To thrive as a CPACC, you need a solid understanding of accessibility standards, disability types, and universal design principles, usually validated by earning the IAAP CPACC certification. Familiarity with tools like screen readers, accessibility evaluation software, and web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset help you advocate for and implement accessibility solutions across teams. These competencies ensure digital content and environments are inclusive, compliant, and user-friendly for all individuals.

What are some common challenges faced by a salaried CPACC in corporate environments?

Salaried CPACC professionals often encounter the challenge of advocating for accessibility in organizations where awareness and resources may be limited. They may need to educate colleagues, navigate competing priorities, and ensure accessibility standards are integrated into project workflows. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—like developers, designers, and product managers—is essential, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills. Overcoming organizational inertia and demonstrating the business value of accessibility are key parts of the role.
