What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a runway model?

To thrive as a Runway Model, you need physical fitness, strong posture, the ability to walk with confidence, and usually meet specific height and appearance standards. Experience with professional modeling agencies and familiarity with casting processes or booking platforms can be helpful, though formal certifications are not typically required. Standout soft skills include adaptability, poise under pressure, and excellent communication for interacting with designers, choreographers, and other models. These skills ensure you can consistently deliver the desired look, follow creative direction, and represent brands effectively in high-stakes live events.

What are the most common challenges faced by runway models during fashion shows?

Runway models often face challenges such as managing quick outfit changes, adapting to new choreography or themes with minimal rehearsal, and maintaining focus despite distractions on and off the runway. Long hours, physical demands, and high-pressure environments can also be common, especially during major fashion weeks. Successful models develop resilience, adaptability, and strong time management skills to meet these demands while maintaining a professional demeanor. Support from backstage teams and good communication with designers help make the experience smoother and more rewarding.

How much do runway models get paid?

Runway models' earnings vary widely based on experience, market, and the designer or brand they work for. Top international models can earn thousands of dollars per show, while newcomers may earn a few hundred dollars or less per event. Many models also supplement income through photoshoots, endorsements, and agency fees.

How to get a job as a runway model?

To become a runway model, individuals typically build a portfolio of professional photos, gain experience through local fashion shows or open casting calls, and meet height and measurement requirements set by agencies. Signing with a reputable modeling agency can provide access to casting opportunities and industry connections.

Job description

We are building AI to simulate the world through merging art and science.
We believe that world models are at the frontier of progress in artificial intelligence. Language models alone won't solve the world's hardest problems - robotics, disease, scientific discovery. Real progress requires models that experience the world and learn from their mistakes, the same way that humans do. And this kind of trial and error can be massively accelerated when done in simulation, rather than in the real world.
World models offer the most clear path to general-purpose simulation, changing how stories are told, how scientific progress is made and how the next frontiers of humanity are reached.
Our team consists of creative, open minded, caring and ambitious people who are determined to change the world. We aspire to continuously build impossible things and our ability to do so relies on building an incredible team. If you are driven to do the same, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
*Open to hiring remote across the US - we also have offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, London, Paris, and Tel Aviv.
We are hiring a Growth Marketing Manager to own paid search and the emerging bidding-platform channels end to end Google Ads today, ChatGPT Ads and whatever bids next. This is a hands-in-the-account role: you build campaigns, run experiments, manage bids and budgets daily, and defend every dollar against our cost-per-subscriber breakeven. You'll manage seven-figure budgets in spend across markets (US + international) and be the person who knows, at any moment, why the number moved.
We're an AI-native creative platform in scale mode. Paid search is one of our priority acquisition channels and we're actively expanding it - new geos, new bidding surfaces, new optimization events. You'll be the operator driving that.
What You'll Do
  • Day-to-day management of Google Ads and ChatGPT Ads - campaign structure, keywords, bids, budgets, negatives, quality score, geo and device splits.
  • Own the cost-per-acquisition number. Manage to a cost-per-acquisition target, not clicks or registrations. Know the funnel from impression → registration → subscription and where it leaks.
  • Run a continuous test roadmap - bidding strategies (tCPA / Smart Bidding), optimization events, ad copy, landing pages, audience and geo splits. One test, one hypothesis, one readout.
  • Prove incrementality. Design and read geo holdouts, conversion-lift studies, and pause tests. Distinguish incremental subscribers from ones we'd have gotten anyway.
  • Manage budget across markets - allocate and reallocate spend by market and campaign against performance, break out international blobs, fund the geos that earn it.
  • Stand up new bidding platforms as they emerge. You'll be first-in on the next channel and write the playbook for it.
  • Report clearly. Daily and weekly readouts that lead with the "why," not just the table. Partner with our analytics stack, much of this is instrumented and semi-automated; you'll extend it.
  • Work cross-functionally with creative, lifecycle, product marketing, and engineering on tracking, attribution, and landing page conversion.

What We're Looking For
  • 4+ years managing paid search, with direct ownership of seven-figures in budget.
  • Deep Google Ads expertise - Smart Bidding, tCPA/tROAS, Performance Max / AI Max, Demand Gen, search term hygiene, quality score, the Editor.
  • A track record running incrementality tests (geo holdouts, lift studies) and acting on the results - not just reporting platform-reported conversions.
  • Fluency in funnel economics: CAC, LTV, cost-per-acquisition, payback. You optimize to downstream value, not proxy events.
  • Comfort in the data - SQL or willingness to learn it, plus GA4 / Mixpanel or equivalent. You pull your own numbers.
  • Rigorous experiment discipline and clear, opinionated written reporting.

Bonus Points
  • Subscription / freemium or consumer SaaS experience.
  • International / multi-market paid search experience.
  • Experience with MCP / AI tooling to automate redundant tasks such as daily optimizations and reporting.
  • Early experience with AI-native ad surfaces (ChatGPT Ads, etc.) or other non-Google bidding platforms.
  • Familiarity with attribution plumbing - click IDs, enhanced conversions, server-side tracking.

Runway strives to recruit and retain exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds while ensuring pay equity for our team. Our salary ranges are based on competitive market rates for our size, stage and industry, and salary is just one part of the overall compensation package we provide.
There are many factors that go into salary determinations, including relevant experience, skill level and qualifications assessed during the interview process, and maintaining internal equity with peers on the team. The range shared below is a general expectation for the function as posted, but we are also open to considering candidates who may be more or less experienced than outlined in the job description. In this case, we will communicate any updates in the expected salary range.
Lastly, the provided range is the expected salary for candidates in the U.S. Outside of those regions, there may be a change in the range, which again, will be communicated to candidates.
Working at Runway
Great things come from great teams. We'd love to hear from you.
We're committed to creating a space where our employees can bring their full selves to work and have equal opportunity to succeed. So regardless of race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, origin, ability, age, veteran status, if joining this mission speaks to you, we encourage you to apply.
