Dyslexia Specialist (Fully Remote, Full-Time)

Texas Sports Academy Main

Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 5 days ago

Job description

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha Schools. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.
We're hiring a fully remote Dyslexia Specialist to support students with dyslexia and related reading differences so they can continue to make strong academic progress. This role is 100% virtual. You will deliver reading intervention and structured literacy support over video from wherever you are based in the U.S., giving students the strategies they need to access the same curriculum as their peers. We are looking for someone with substantive experience delivering structured literacy instruction to students with dyslexia. You have a working knowledge of evidence-based methods and a track record of measurable reading gains with students.
What You'll Do
  • Structured Literacy Instruction: Deliver one-on-one and small-group sessions over video using an evidence-based, structured literacy approach tailored to each student's profile.
  • Individual Student Support: Work directly with students on decoding, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension, adjusting instruction based on how each student is progressing.
  • Progress Monitoring: Use running records, curriculum-based measures, and other reading assessments to track growth and adjust plans on a regular cadence.
  • Partner With Guides and Coaches: Collaborate with academic guides and athletic coaches so accommodations and strategies are applied consistently across a student's academic day.
  • Parent Communication: Provide regular updates to parents on strategies, progress, and next steps, and coach parents on how to reinforce reading work at home.
  • Platform and Accommodation Support: Help students use text-to-speech, audiobooks, and other tools effectively, and make sure classroom accommodations translate into the online learning environment.

Requirements
  • Direct Experience Supporting Students With Dyslexia: You have worked with students who have dyslexia or related reading differences and can point to specific examples of the reading gains you helped them achieve.
  • Training in Structured Literacy: You have completed training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, LETRS, or a comparable structured literacy program, and you use those methods in your day-to-day practice.
  • Assessment and Planning Skills: You can read a student's assessment data, identify the right instructional next step, and communicate that plan clearly to parents and staff.
  • Comfortable in an Athletic Environment: You understand the demands of competitive youth athletics and can build trust with student-athletes who are already managing a lot.
  • Bachelor's Degree: In education, special education, reading, speech-language pathology, or a related field.
  • Location: Remote (U.S.)

Bonus Points
  • Virtual Experience With Kids: You have taught, tutored, or supported students in a fully remote setting and know how to keep engagement high through a screen.
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist or Equivalent: CALT, CALP, or comparable certification in dyslexia intervention.
  • Background in Sports or Athletics: Personal or professional experience in competitive athletics.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish): Ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking families.
