Are verification engineers in demand?

Verification engineers are in high demand due to the increasing complexity of integrated circuits and digital systems. They are essential for ensuring design correctness and often require skills in hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, along with experience in simulation tools. The role offers strong job prospects across semiconductor, electronics, and technology companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RTL Verification Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RTL Verification Engineer, you need a strong background in digital design, hardware description languages (such as Verilog or VHDL), and a degree in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with verification tools like UVM, SystemVerilog, simulation environments, and scripting languages (Python, Perl) is typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for identifying issues and collaborating with design teams. These skills ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality hardware designs by detecting and resolving functional errors early in the development process.

Is RTL design a good career?

RTL Verification is a critical role in hardware design, focusing on ensuring the correctness of digital circuits through simulation and testing. It requires knowledge of hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL and often involves collaboration with design teams. The field offers steady demand and opportunities for specialization, making it a viable career choice for those interested in electronics and chip development.

What is the salary of RTL design and verification engineer?

The salary of an RTL design and verification engineer typically ranges from $80,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced engineers with specialized skills in hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog can earn higher salaries.

What are some common challenges faced by RTL Verification Engineers during the verification process?

RTL Verification Engineers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex design specifications, managing tight project deadlines, and debugging intricate issues that arise during simulation. Collaborating effectively with design engineers is key, as verification often uncovers design bugs that require quick turnaround fixes. Additionally, staying updated with evolving verification methodologies and tools, like UVM or SystemVerilog, is essential for efficiently writing reusable testbenches and achieving comprehensive coverage.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, data science, or hardware design can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially at senior levels or in leadership roles. These positions often require advanced skills, certifications, and extensive industry experience, typically in high-demand sectors like technology or finance.

What is RTL verification?

RTL verification is the process of checking the correctness of a hardware design described at the Register Transfer Level (RTL), typically written in hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL. The main goal is to ensure that the design behaves as intended before it is synthesized into actual hardware, catching logical errors early in the design cycle. Verification engineers use techniques such as simulation, assertion-based verification, and formal verification to validate the functionality and performance of the RTL code. This process is critical for reducing bugs, improving quality, and ensuring the final silicon works correctly.

What is the difference between Rtl Verification vs Logic Verification?

AspectRtl VerificationLogic Verification
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, VLSI Design, or related fields; knowledge of hardware description languages (HDLs)Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields; familiarity with HDL and verification tools
Work EnvironmentASIC/FPGA design teams, hardware development labsHardware design teams, verification and validation departments
Industry UsagePrimarily in semiconductor, electronics, and hardware design companiesElectronics, semiconductor, and integrated circuit industries

Rtl Verification focuses on verifying the Register Transfer Level design to ensure correctness before fabrication, while Logic Verification encompasses broader testing of logical functions at various levels. Both roles require similar skills and often overlap, but Rtl Verification is more specialized in hardware description languages and early-stage design validation.

Job description

Position Summary

Samsung, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, is founded on a simple philosophy - the endless pursuit of excellence will create a better world for all. At Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL), we are building a center of excellence for Intellectual Property (IP) that is applied to high-performance computing devices (mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments) consumed by millions of people around the world. Come build with us!

Role and Responsibilities

As a Staff GPU Graphics Core Performance Verification Engineer, you will help lead pre-silicon performance verification and correlation for Samsung's next-generation GPU and system-level IP. Your work will directly influence architectural validation, performance predictability, and workload optimization by ensuring GPU designs meet targeted performance expectations across architectural models, emulation, and silicon environments.

In this high-impact individual contributor role, you will contribute to performance verification strategy, develop scalable test infrastructure, and analyze GPU performance behavior across complex graphics and compute workloads. You will partner closely with GPU architecture, modeling, RTL, and validation teams to identify bottlenecks, debug performance issues, and guide performance tuning from early architectural exploration through silicon bring-up.

  • Leveraging your expertise in GPU architecture and performance analysis, you architect and drive pre-silicon performance verification strategies, methodologies, and execution flows for graphics core and GPU subsystem validation.
  • You develop and maintain performance verification infrastructure, including test environments, workloads, profiling tools, automation, and scalable verification flows to characterize GPU performance across simulation, emulation, and architectural platforms.
  • You ensure technical excellence by analyzing, correlating, and comparing performance behavior across architectural models, RTL, emulation, and silicon, identifying bottlenecks and driving data-driven optimization strategies
  • You lead cross-functional collaboration with GPU architecture, Modeling, RTL, Verification, and Software teams to define performance targets, debug performance issues, align workload behavior with architectural intent, and improve overall GPU efficiency and scalability
  • You inspire high performance by mentoring engineers, advancing performance verification methodologies, and fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning while staying ahead of emerging GPU architectures, graphics workloads, and AI/ML compute trends.
