Job description

Job Title: RMA Systems Technician
Location(s): Tustin, CA - Onsite
Compensation: $24.00 - $29.00
About this position:
RMA Systems Technician is responsible for diagnosing, testing, repairing, and refurbishing returned embedded computing systems and industrial hardware within Advantech's Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) operations. This role supports system-level troubleshooting, component replacement, and functional validation to ensure repaired products meet quality and performance standards.
Working closely with Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service teams, the RMA Systems Technician documents repair activity, identifies failure trends, and helps maintain efficient turnaround times. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced repair and service environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, repair, and rework of returned embedded systems, industrial PCs, and related hardware.
  • Utilize electronic measuring instruments including oscilloscopes, programmable testers, multimeters, power supplies, and test fixtures to evaluate system performance.
  • Execute functional, assembly, and engineering change tests in accordance with established SOPs and service procedures.
  • Review service BOMs, schematics, and PCB layouts to support troubleshooting and parts replacement activities.
  • Perform soldering and rework of surface mount components, CPU sockets, and BGA chipsets as required.
  • Update repair, rework, and refurbishment details accurately within the eRMA system, documenting materials used and technical actions performed.
  • Communicate repair status and technical findings to Supervisors, Application Engineers, Product Managers, and Customer Service teams as needed.
  • Identify recurring failure trends and escalate concerns regarding components, raw materials, or test fixtures to leadership.
  • Support spare parts evaluation and procurement needs related to repair activities.
  • Assist in maintaining test equipment, fixtures, and technical documentation.
  • Perform additional duties and technical projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Electronics, Computer Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Completion of formal technical training (3+ years) or comparable vocational/technical education required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in hardware and software troubleshooting within a technical support, repair, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of computer hardware, embedded systems, and Microsoft operating systems.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing system-level hardware and related components.
  • Relevant product or technical certifications preferred.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or collaborative team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing workloads and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
