What are the typical challenges faced by a Risk Program Manager when balancing compliance requirements with business objectives?

Risk Program Managers often encounter the challenge of ensuring strict adherence to regulatory and compliance standards while supporting the organization's strategic goals. This balancing act requires effective communication with both compliance teams and business leaders to align risk mitigation strategies with operational needs. It may involve prioritizing risks, negotiating acceptable risk levels, and fostering a culture of shared responsibility. Success in this area depends on strong analytical skills, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate complex risk data into actionable insights.

What is the highest salary for a risk manager?

The highest salaries for risk program managers can exceed $150,000 annually, especially for those with extensive experience, advanced certifications like FRM or CRM, and leadership roles in large organizations. Compensation varies based on industry, location, and the complexity of risk management responsibilities.

Do risk managers make good money?

Risk managers typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, industry, and location. According to industry data, median annual pay ranges from $80,000 to over $130,000, with senior roles and certifications like FRM or CRM often commanding higher compensation. The role requires strong analytical skills and knowledge of risk assessment tools.

What does a risk program manager do?

A risk program manager oversees an organization's risk management initiatives, developing strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks across various departments. They coordinate risk assessments, implement policies, and ensure compliance with regulations, often using tools like risk management software and requiring certifications such as PMP or CRM. Their role involves collaboration with stakeholders to minimize financial, operational, and reputational risks.

How much does a risk manager get paid?

The average salary for a risk program manager typically ranges from $80,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, industry, and location. Senior risk managers or those with specialized certifications like FRM or CRM tend to earn higher salaries, and the role often requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with risk management tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Risk Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Risk Program Manager, you need expertise in risk assessment, compliance, project management, and a relevant degree such as in finance, business, or risk management. Familiarity with risk management frameworks, GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) tools, and certifications like CRMP or PMP are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and leadership skills help you effectively collaborate across departments and guide organizational risk strategies. These skills ensure the organization can proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks while maintaining compliance and supporting business objectives.

Program Manager

Censis Technologies is seeking an experienced Program Manager to orchestrate our new product initiatives from development through launch. In this role, you\'ll be the connective tissue across engineering, product, and go-to-market teams, ensuring our most critical programs deliver impact on time and with excellence.

What You\'ll Do

You\'ll own end-to-end program execution for major product initiatives. This means driving clarity on timelines, identifying and managing cross-team dependencies, and ensuring every team has what they need to succeed. When programs veer off track, you\'ll be the first to know, and the first to mobilize the right people to get things back on course.

Your days will involve facilitating planning sessions, tracking progress against key milestones, and maintaining visibility into program health through KPIs and metrics. When gaps emerge between expected and actual performance, you\'ll dig in to understand root causes and work with teams to address them. You\'ll become an expert in what\'s blocking progress and an advocate for removing those obstacles.

What We\'re Looking For

You have a track record of successfully delivering complex programs across multiple stakeholders. You\'re comfortable operating in ambiguity and bringing structure allowing all participants to thrive. You know how to ask the right questions to surface dependencies before they become blockers, and you have the technical fluency to understand engineering trade-offs and impact without needing to write the code yourself.

You\'re an effective communicator who can translate between technical and non-technical audiences. You know when to escalate and when to solve problems directly. You\'re metrics-driven and motivated by achieving results. Most importantly, you enable teams rather than dictating to them.

Responsibilities

  • Drive programs from kickoff through launch, ensuring delivery against committed timelines and quality standardsย
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive program plans including scope, milestones, resource requirements, and critical path activities for all major initiatives
  • Partner with functional teams to assess capacity, manage trade-offs, and sequence work to optimize for business impact and team velocity
  • Identify, document, and actively manage cross-team dependencies to prevent blockers and ensure seamless handoffs between engineering, product, and go-to-market teamsย
  • Ensure all teams have the tools, information, and resources needed to meet their commitments, escalating blockers and securing decisions when neededย
  • Define, track, and report on program KPIs and health metrics, proactively investigating variances and deploy countermeasures to address gapsย
  • Build and maintain program dashboards and status reports that provide clear visibility into progress, risks, and blockers for technical, commercial, and leadership teamsย
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain risk registers, develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans for high-impact program risksย
  • Drive post-launch retrospectives and continuous improvement initiatives, capturing lessons learned and implementing process enhancementsย

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience in a corporate environment
  • Demonstrated success managing programs from development through adoptionย
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and software development lifecycle
  • Clear expertise in dependency mapping ย and managing risk registerย
  • Track record of early identification of program veering off-track and implementing countermeasures to get back on target
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define, track, and act on KPIs
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with program management tools and methodologies โ€“ such as Jira, Asana, or similar project management platforms
  • Demonstrated impact using the Fortive Business Systemย

Nice to Have

  • Technical background or degree in related fieldย
  • PMP, PgMP, or similar program management certification
