What you will do:
Put the employee experience first
  • Design, administer, and continuously improve health, retirement, voluntary, and wellbeing programs with a strong focus on clarity, accessibility, and ease of use
  • Champion employee understanding and adoption of benefits through thoughtful communication, data-driven insights, and strategic partnerships
  • Act as a trusted advisor to HR colleagues and employees, bringing empathy, judgment, and strong problem-solving skills to complex situations

Lead with influence and expertise
  • Own the ongoing configuration, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of benefits programs in Workday, ensuring accuracy and a seamless employee experience
  • Partner on Workday releases, improvements, and digital enablement efforts that reduce friction, improve self-service, and increase transparency
  • Use technology, analytics, automation, and emerging AI capabilities to improve operational efficiency and employee support.

Align wellbeing to strategy-and make it stick
  • Ensure wellbeing programs are clearly aligned to broader people and business strategy
  • Increase awareness and perceived value of existing benefits-especially no-cost or employer-paid offerings-through targeted campaigns and insights from engagement or utilization data
  • Collaborate with HR and key stakeholders to ensure wellbeing initiatives are relevant, measurable, and responsive to workforce needs

Ensure compliant, trusted benefit administration
  • Maintain strong oversight of benefits compliance across federal, state, and local regulations (including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and related requirements)
  • Coordinate audits, filings, required notices, and reporting with vendors and external partners, ensuring timeliness and accuracy
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assess impact, and provide clear recommendations to leadership on required or optional program changes

Lead with influence and expertise
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure programs are administered efficiently, compliantly, and in alignment with organizational goals
  • Provide mentorship and subject-matter guidance to HR colleagues, supporting consistent, high-quality benefits administration
  • Use benchmarking, trend analysis, and workforce insights to inform future benefits and wellbeing strategy

What you need to succeed:
  • 5-7 years of experience in employee benefits administration and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of benefits compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Hands-on experience administering benefits in Workday (strongly preferred)
  • Digital fluency and comfort leveraging HR technology, data, automation, and emerging AI capabilities
  • A balance of analytical rigor and employee empathy-you can handle complexity without losing sight of the human experience
  • Ability to translate strategy into action and communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience); professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, CBP) a plus

Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia
