You’ll collaborate with engineering and field services teams and play a key part in RMS Energy’s growth in the substation and power systems space.
What You’ll Do:
  • Design and analyze complex electrical power systems and substation upgrades
  • Develop electrical and substation equipment specifications, drawing packages, and installation plans
  • Perform short-circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies using software such as SKM, EasyPower, or ETAP
  • Generate control circuit designs and develop relay settings for both electromechanical and digital relays
  • Review existing power systems and provide expert recommendations for upgrades or improvements
  • Analyze power quality data and investigate event capture data to pinpoint causes and mitigation strategies
  • Travel to job sites as needed to collect field data, support installation efforts, and assist in commissioning
  • Provide technical expertise to internal teams and occasionally assist field services teams on-site
  • Prioritize safety and follow strict procedures when working around energized equipment
  • Conduct Power Quality Analysis, identifying power quality issues, troubleshooting, and mentoring new engineers
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
The Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 3-5 years of experience in power system design, relay settings, installation packages, and commissioning support
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD and power system modeling tools (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP)
  • Knowledge of protection and control schemes, substation layouts, and electrical studies
Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Able to work remotely with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel 15–20% across the continental U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Available for extended and irregular hours as needed
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments
  • Able to lift 20+ lbs and navigate uneven surfaces and elevated work areas
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
Bonus Points for:
  • Experience supporting commissioning or field service teams directly
  • Familiarity with isolated-phase bus duct systems or generation-side interconnect design
  • Previous utility, data center, or renewable energy sector experience
  • NETA Level 2, 3, or 4 certification
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license
  • PE licensure in one or more U.S. states
  • Formal coursework or certification in power system protection and coordination
