What are remote telecom fiber jobs?

Remote telecom fiber jobs involve working with fiber optic cables and networks to provide telecommunication services, such as high-speed internet and data transmission, often from a remote location rather than on-site. These roles can include tasks like network monitoring, troubleshooting, design, and support, all performed using remote access tools. Common job titles in this field include fiber network engineer, remote fiber technician, and telecom support specialist. These positions are essential for maintaining and optimizing the performance of fiber optic networks, especially as demand for reliable high-speed connectivity grows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Telecom Fiber Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Telecom Fiber Technician, you need a solid understanding of fiber optic technology, troubleshooting, and network infrastructure, often supported by certifications like FOA CFOT or similar. Familiarity with tools such as OTDRs, splicing machines, and network management systems is essential for installation and maintenance tasks. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication, and self-motivation are important soft skills, especially when working independently or with remote teams. These competencies ensure reliable network performance, minimize downtime, and enable efficient collaboration in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote telecom fiber roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote telecom fiber roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating site visits over long distances, maintaining clear communication with on-site teams, and troubleshooting connectivity issues without physical access to equipment. These challenges can be addressed by leveraging advanced network monitoring tools, maintaining detailed documentation, and developing strong remote collaboration skills. Regular virtual meetings with field technicians and proactive planning for potential technical issues are also key to ensuring smooth project execution.

Job description

Location: Remote (U.S.)
Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 base + commission

About the Role
We are looking for a Director of Sales to lead business development efforts across our telecom and fiber infrastructure solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building pipeline, closing new business, and helping expand our presence with carriers, ISPs, and enterprise customers.
This is not a pure management role — we’re looking for someone who can lead from the front, stay close to the market, and drive revenue directly while guiding a small team.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive new business development across telecom, fiber, and network infrastructure markets
  • Build and manage relationships with carriers, ISPs, municipalities, and enterprise customers
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies to grow revenue and expand market share
  • Lead and mentor a small sales team, setting direction and helping them close deals
  • Work closely with internal teams (engineering, operations, product) to align solutions with customer needs
  • Identify new opportunities tied to FTTH/FTTx deployments and broadband expansion programs (including BEAD initiatives)
  • Manage pipeline, forecasting, and sales activity to consistently hit revenue targets

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in telecom, fiber, or network infrastructure sales
  • Proven track record of closing new business and exceeding sales targets
  • Experience selling into carriers, ISPs, or telecom service providers
  • Strong understanding of fiber infrastructure, FTTH/FTTx networks, or related technologies
  • Experience leading or mentoring sales teams (player/coach style preferred)
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and business stakeholders
  • Familiarity with broadband funding programs (BEAD or similar) is a strong plus
