What is a remote survey researcher?

Remote survey researchers are professionals who design, conduct, and analyze surveys to collect data and insights, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office, such as their home. They use digital tools to create questionnaires, distribute them online or by phone, and interpret the results to inform business, academic, or public policy decisions. Their work often involves statistical analysis, report writing, and collaboration with other researchers or clients, all handled virtually. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and technical skills, as well as the ability to work independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote survey researcher?

To thrive as a Remote Survey Researcher, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in statistics or social sciences, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with survey platforms (like Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey), data analysis tools (such as SPSS or Excel), and online research methods is typically required. Excellent written communication, time management, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for success in a remote setting. These skills and qualities ensure accurate data collection, effective insights, and the ability to deliver reliable research outcomes remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by remote survey researchers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote survey researchers often encounter challenges such as limited access to immediate feedback from colleagues, managing time zones, and ensuring high response rates from participants. To address these, it's helpful to use collaborative digital platforms for communication, set clear deadlines, and schedule regular virtual meetings with the team. Additionally, leveraging automated survey tools and adopting flexible working hours can help maintain productivity and data quality while working remotely.

Compensation/Benefits: Up to $35.00 per hour depending on experience (DOE), PTO, Medical, dental, vision and voluntary benefits offered
Company Overview:
Nexgen is a premier land surveying firm dedicated to expanding our presence throughout Florida by providing top-tier surveying, mapping, and geospatial services. We provide mortgage surveys to title agents and real estate attorneys as well as construction suverying services for residential projects. Our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and precision drives us to deliver exceptional results, fostering growth and success for our clients and communities. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Land Survey Drafter or SIT to join our dynamic and growing team.
Job Summary:
The Senior Land Survey Drafter serves as the central “traffic controller” and client advocate for all survey projects, overseeing workflow from client request through final delivery. In this role, this person manages outsourced research and drafting partners, ensuring projects are accurately scoped, properly assigned, delivered on schedule, and meet company quality standards. With production work handled externally, this position focuses on client communication, vendor coordination, quality assurance, and financial performance—balancing technical understanding with strong organizational and customer service skills to drive efficient, profitable project execution.
Why This Role is Different
No "Box" Time: The drafter is not expected to sit and draft; their value is in their eye for detail and ability to spot errors that others miss.
Profit Driver: Because they quote the work and manage the vendors, they are directly responsible for the cost-effectiveness of the survey department.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Customer Consultation & Quoting: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients; scope project requirements and deliver accurate cost estimates and timelines.
  • Outsourced Vendor Management: Distribute research tasks to due diligence partners and assign drafting projects to remote teams, ensuring all vendors have the necessary field data and client specs.
  • QA/QC Oversight: Utilize previous drafting experience to rigorously review and redline deliverables from outsourced teams, ensuring they meet company standards and local regulations before client delivery.
  • Technical Liaison: Translate complex client requests into clear instructions for drafting teams and resolve any technical discrepancies between field notes and office research.
  • Schedule & Budget Tracking: Monitor the progress of all active survey task orders, tracking vendor invoices and ensuring project margins remain healthy.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Drafting Background: Must have significant experience in CAD-based survey production (AutoCAD Civil 3D/Carlson) to effectively audit outsourced work and provide technical guidance.
  • Project Management: 1+ years in a coordination or management role within the land surveying industry.
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to manage client expectations and maintain professional relationships with multiple external vendors.
  • Technical Fluency: Ability to analyze legal descriptions, title reports, and topographic data provided by outsourced due diligence teams.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Pay: $20.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
  • After 60 days: Medical, Vision, Dental, and Company-paid basic life insurance. Accident, critical illness, hospital, term and whole life offered on a voluntary basis.
  • After 90 days: 401(k) savings program, Paid Time Off.
  • After 6 months: responsible charge hour accrual opportunities.

If you are a Senior Land Survey Drafter passionate about delivering exceptional service and meet the qualifications above, we encourage you to apply!
