The main difference between a Remote Sous Chef and a Remote Line Cook lies in their responsibilities and experience level. In contrast, the Remote Line Cook focuses on preparing dishes according to recipes, supporting the kitchen team. Both roles are essential in culinary operations but serve different functions within the industry.

What is a Remote Sous Chef?

A Remote Sous Chef is a culinary professional who assists the head chef in kitchen operations from a distance, often using digital tools to oversee meal preparation, menu planning, and staff training. This role typically involves providing guidance and support to on-site kitchen teams via video calls, online platforms, or written communication. Remote Sous Chefs may also help develop recipes, ensure food safety standards are met, and coordinate with suppliers. This position is becoming more common in virtual cooking classes, catering businesses, and companies with multiple kitchen locations.

How does a Remote Sous Chef effectively collaborate with kitchen teams in different locations?

As a Remote Sous Chef, effective collaboration relies heavily on clear communication, strong organizational skills, and the use of digital tools. You'll typically coordinate with on-site kitchen staff through video calls, shared recipe platforms, and digital inventory management systems. Regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and virtual tastings help ensure consistency and quality across locations. Building strong relationships remotely can be challenging, but staying proactive and responsive helps foster teamwork and smooth kitchen operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Sous Chef, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Sous Chef, you need strong culinary expertise, menu planning skills, and experience in kitchen operations, often supported by a culinary degree or relevant certifications. Familiarity with kitchen management software, virtual collaboration tools, and HACCP food safety systems is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills help you effectively lead remote teams and coordinate with suppliers. These abilities are essential to maintain food quality, ensure kitchen efficiency, and deliver consistent results in a remote or distributed culinary environment.

Job description

Executive Sous Chef

Singer Drivers Club | Willow Springs Raceway | Mojave Desert, California

ABOUT SINGER DRIVERS CLUB

Singer Drivers Club (SDC) is a world-class private motorsport and lifestyle club at Willow Springs Raceway — the fastest road in the West since 1953. Set deep in the Mojave Desert, SDC hands its members the keys to six legendary circuits, elite driver coaching, concierge-level service, curated food and beverage, and an expansive outdoor pursuits program. This is more than a track. It's a founding-team opportunity to build something rare from the ground up — a club that fuses raw performance, real adventure, and genuine community at a standard set to rival the finest private clubs in the country. For the right person, this is the chance to help write the standard rather than inherit it.

SDC joins a distinguished family of private clubs and communities that includes Yellowstone Club, Moonlight Basin, Spanish Peaks, and Crazy Mountain Ranch — some of the most extraordinary member destinations anywhere. To build a career inside a collection this ambitious is a rare thing: the standard you help set here connects to a much larger world of remarkable places and the people who bring them to life.

THE ROLE

The Executive Sous Chef is the Executive Chef's right hand and the engine of the kitchen. You run the line, hold the standard when the chef is away, and translate the culinary vision into flawless nightly execution.

You'll help build and train the brigade, own day-to-day ordering and food cost, run line checks and station setups, and keep the kitchen moving cleanly through everything from quiet member days to full-throttle events. When the chef is out, the kitchen is yours.

Expect to work every station, jump on the pass when service demands it, and coach cooks in real time. You'll enforce sanitation and safety standards and keep quality tight when the tickets stack up.

This is a private club, so consistency and a personal touch matter. You'll help deliver on member preferences and dietary needs and make sure every plate leaving the pass meets the standard members expect.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Line leadership and full kitchen management in the chef's absence
  • Strong execution across every station and cooking discipline
  • Supporting menu and recipe development, and presenting new dishes for tastings
  • Day-to-day ordering, receiving, inventory, and food-cost management
  • Quality-control checks on goods received and every plate, per HACCP
  • Line checks, station setups, prep organization, and par management
  • Training, coaching, and developing cooks in real time
  • Menu execution for dietary needs and member preferences
  • Member and guest interaction — gathering feedback on food and service and resolving concerns with care
  • Sanitation and safety compliance (ServSafe / HACCP)
  • Right-sizing schedules — adequate coverage for events and daily service without overstaffing
  • Discretion and respect for member privacy at all times
  • Calm, decisive problem-solving under event pressure

EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years as a Sous or Executive Sous Chef in fine dining or luxury hospitality
  • Track record running a kitchen independently when needed
  • Experience with both high-volume events and à la carte service
  • Club or resort culinary experience preferred
  • Ordering, receiving, and food-cost management experience
  • Scheduling and labor-planning experience for F&B functions and daily service
  • Formal culinary training or a diploma from a recognized institution preferred
  • Food-safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent)

DETAILS

  • On-site, remote desert location; weekend, holiday, and event-day coverage required
  • Full-time, benefits-eligible
  • Reports to the Executive Chef

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires walking, standing, and giving direction most of the working day; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with members, supervisors and subordinates.

BENEFITS

  • Medical, Dental, Vision benefits (FSA/HSA/DFSA options)
  • Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) - Annual $650
  • Company-paid employee Life Insurance, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability
  • 401K with Bi-Weekly Employer Match
  • Paid Time Off
