Job description

Company Description
About Nearmap
Property intelligence is reshaping how the world understands the built environment, and Nearmap is driving that. We put powerful aerial imagery, AI-driven analytics, and geospatial tools into the hands of the people who plan, build, insure, and govern the places we all live and work. Our technology turns property uncertainty into decisive action, and our culture brings out the best in the people who build it.
We move fast, we care about craft, and we're proud of what we're building. If you're energized by turning hard problems into real-world impact, we'd love to meet you.
Job Description
About the Role
Engagement Type - Full time, fully remote consultant; ~6 - 24 month engagement
Nearmap's Roof & Exterior Measurements (REM) program delivers aerial property measurement outputs - roof geometry, wall dimensions, window/door counts and measurement, and material classification - to insurance carriers, restoration contractors, and estimating platforms. As we scale toward broader carrier and commercial deployment, we are seeking a seasoned industry practitioner to serve as a full-time Subject Matter Expert (SME) Consultant embedded within the REM product team.
This role is a critical bridge between deep industry knowledge and product execution. The SME Consultant will inform us how we define measurement standards, evaluate output quality, shape process flows, and position our capabilities relative to the market. You will work directly with the VP of Product and product team as well as cross-functional leads spanning Engineering, Operations, and Go-to-Market.
The REM program is in active commercial scale-up, with a rapidly growing pipeline of major carrier and platform partnerships. This role will be embedded within a dedicated REM pod structure alongside Product Managers, Engineering, QA, and an Operations Lead - focused on delivering high-quality, carrier-grade measurement outputs at scale.
The SME Consultant will have direct and ongoing access to the VP of Product, program leadership, and carrier stakeholders. This is a high-impact role with significant influence over product direction, quality standards, and market positioning at a critical stage of program growth.
What You'll Do
Product & Measurement Standards:
  • Serve as the internal authority on industry-standard roof and exterior measurement definitions and best practices, including pitch, facet area, ridge/hip/valley/eave lengths, wall heights, window/door placement and counts.
  • Define and document measurement acceptance criteria aligned to carrier and contractor use cases for Verisk and Cotality estimating solutions - what constitutes a "good" REM output vs. a defect.
  • Partner with Engineering and QA to translate measurement standards into test cases, QC/QA practices that can inform operations standards and training materials.
  • Provide expert review of photogrammetric and AI model outputs for accuracy, edge-case handling (complex rooflines, dormers, mansards, low-slope, multi-story), and completeness.
  • Advise on aerial, oblique, and supplemental imagery use in measurement workflows - including source imagery strengths/limitations relative to field verification standards.

Insurance & Estimating Platform Expertise
  • Guide REM output design and formatting for seamless delivery into Verisk Xactimate (ESX) and Cotality/Symbility workflows - roof block usage and conversion, field mapping, unit conventions, and estimating line-item alignment.
  • Advise on carrier intake processes, adjuster workflows, claim file structures, and the downstream impact of measurement data on estimate accuracy and settlement speed.
  • Identify gaps between current REM outputs and what carriers/adjusters need in practice; translate those gaps into prioritized product requirements in partnership with functionality and operational product manager.
  • Serve as a resource to Sales and GTM during carrier evaluations, POCs, and onboarding - providing credibility and technical depth in customer-facing conversations.

Industry Practices & Technology Trends
  • Maintain deep and current knowledge of industry methods and technologies employed to solve for accurate exterior measurements, confidence in various imagery source options, Quality practices driving to measurement accuracy standards and carrier integrations.
  • Feed insights on gaps and differentiators into roadmap prioritization and positioning
  • Advise on measurement methodologies used in industry to help drive use and focus of Nearmap imagery in most effective ways

Process Flow & Operational Design
  • Map and critique end-to-end order flows from carrier submission through analyst QA through output delivery - identifying failure modes, SLA risk, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Contribute to analyst training standards and QC/QA strategy lists in collaboration with the Product, Operations Lead and vendor management teams.
  • Participate in and define measurement quality and workflow readiness assessments at scale
  • Support analyst/vendor performance reviews by evaluating output samples and providing structured feedback on accuracy, consistency, and compliance with defined standards.

Qualifications
Required Experience
  • 5+ years working directly with Verisk Xactimate and/or Cotality/Symbility platforms in a professional capacity as an estimator, platform SME, trainer, product manager, or technical consultant.
  • Deep understanding of residential and commercial property insurance claim workflows - from First Notice of Loss (FNOL) through estimate creation, supplement, and settlement - with specific expertise in roofing and exterior.
  • Hands-on experience interpreting or producing roof measurement reports from third party suppliers; ability to evaluate output quality against field conditions.
  • Familiarity with aerial and oblique imagery and how it is used in leading to estimate creation and other commercial use cases
  • Experience working with or for insurance carriers, large TPAs, or restoration contractors at a technical/operational level.

Preferred Experience
  • Firsthand experience building, operating, or QA-reviewing a roof/exterior measurement product or service.
  • Familiarity with industry measurement methodologies, data output formats, and how carriers consume and integrate third-party measurement data
  • Experience defining product requirements or QA standards in a technology or SaaS environment.
  • Familiarity with Xactimate ESX file formats, field/line-item conventions, and industry-standard carrier estimating guidelines for residential and commercial
  • Experience training or managing offshore or distributed analyst teams performing measurement or estimate review work.
  • Background in structural assessment, roofing contracting, field adjusting, or building sciences a plus.

Skills & Attributes
  • Ability to operate at the intersection of deep domain expertise and practical product execution - translating field knowledge into testable requirements and QA standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present findings to executive and carrier audiences with clarity and credibility.
  • Structured thinker who can decompose complex measurements or process problems into root causes and actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborative; comfortable working cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, GTM, and external vendor partners.
  • High standards for output quality and attention to detail - you notice when something is off and know how to articulate why it matters.
  • Self-directed; able to manage ambiguity and operate effectively in a fast-moving program environment.
