Introduction
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection ( DATCP ) works hard to protect and promote Wisconsin's agricultural industries and consumers. DATCP currently has an opening for a Community Outreach Specialist position within the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, Bureau of Consumer Protection.
This position will be headquartered at the Milwaukee Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Office .
Remote Work Option: This position may have the ability to work remotely up to 6 days per 2-week pay period! An approved remote work agreement is required before an employee may work remotely. Approval of the employee's remote work agreement and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the Division. All DATCP employees who work remotely are required to live in Wisconsin.

Position Summary
This professional position in the Bureau of Consumer Protection serves as an outreach and education liaison on consumer protection issues such as identity theft, scam and fraud avoidance, safe online habits and other privacy protection related issues. The position is responsible for identifying and developing methods to deliver resources to assist consumers, businesses, law enforcement, and other professionals about consumer protection issues. The position also functions as the lead specialist in the southeastern part of the state for organizing regional groups of public and private entities involved in consumer protection related issues. The position provides education, identifies and establishes stakeholder relations, produces informational materials, and researches potential developments in the field. The position will be familiar with and communicate best practices developed by federal, state and local agencies on consumer protection issues.
This position is also responsible for assisting with administrative and informational/educational services in the bureau and division. This includes serving as the division's southeastern area educational coordinator and technical advisor on consumer protection, identity theft, and related issues; advising the bureau director, policy initiatives advisor, and the division administrator on appropriate strategies for advancing the division's strategic plan for outreach and education and other legislative goals. The position conducts research and analysis on other consumer protection and identity theft related issues as needs arise; prepares analyses of outreach proposals and develops work plans.

Salary Information
The classification of this position is Community Services Technician-Senior, which is in schedule-range 07-04 with a starting pay between $29.00 to $34.00 per hour based on qualifications.
This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities and transferable skills, unique to each Bureau and position.
These OJT opportunities and transferable skills include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules.
Conditions of Employment:
DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.
A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.
Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes, is required.
A valid driver's license and the eligibility to drive a State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle* is required.
*In order to be authorized to drive a State vehicle the candidate must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy, which are:
  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience;
  • Must be 18 years of age.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
  • Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
  • Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
  • Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
Travel is required for approximately 50-75% of this position's duties with some overnight travel.
Some evenings and occasional weekend hours required.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs to transport outreach materials.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:
  • Experience with public speaking in a professional setting (i.e. presenting to stakeholders on various topics, participating in panel discussions, etc.)
  • Experience developing informational materials for outreach purposes
  • Experience identifying, developing and delivering guidance to external stakeholders
In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:
  • Experience working with consumer protection issues such as identity theft
  • Experience establishing and maintaining business, association, industry and/or government relationships
  • Experience evaluating data to identify new outreach or marketing opportunities
