Job description

Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.
Navigating healthcare is complex, and our company's commitment is to make it simpler and more intelligent through AI. As Lead Product Manager, AI and Emerging Technology Intelligence, you serve as the organization's forward-looking lens on AI-bringing a deep understanding of emerging technology capabilities, product innovation patterns, and market signals to shape where and how we invest.
This is not a traditional competitive intelligence role. You are a technologist-first strategist who actively tracks, evaluates, and experiments with emerging AI capabilities-forming clear, actionable perspectives on what matters, what doesn't, and what our company should do next. You combine hands-on awareness of evolving AI tools with cross-industry pattern recognition to identify opportunities that will redefine member, advocate, and broker experiences.
You partner closely with product, experience, strategy, and partnerships teams to ensure our AI roadmap reflects not just current needs, but the future of intelligent, personalized healthcare experiences. Your work informs what we build, what we partner for, and where we differentiate, helping leadership make confident, forward-looking decisions.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate emerging technology capabilities, tools, and product patterns (with a strong focus on AI) and how they reshape user expectations and product experiences across industries
  • Develop a first-hand perspective on the AI landscape by actively engaging with new technologies, platforms, and tools-not relying solely on third-party reports or traditional research sources
  • Identify patterns, inflection points, and gaps in our current product roadmap, surfacing high-impact opportunities to product and strategy leaders
  • Translate external signals into clear points of view and recommendations, helping leadership determine where to invest, experiment, partner, or wait
  • Produce regular intelligence outputs (reports, briefings, scenario narratives) that go beyond summary-introducing new ways of thinking, challenging assumptions, and shaping strategic direction
  • Partner with Product, UX and Competitive Intelligence teams to connect external signals with internal capabilities, ensuring insights are actionable and grounded in reality
  • Contribute to future-state visioning, including future scenario writing, product concepts, and directional thinking that inform long-term strategy
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders, providing perspective on emerging risks, opportunities, and competitive differentiation in the AI landscape

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years in product management, emerging technology strategy and research or innovation-focused roles, with direct exposure to AI-enabled products or platforms
  • Experience working across industries or analyzing consumer-grade technology experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and evaluate AI technologies at a practical level (e.g., LLMs, copilots, automation tools, personalization systems)
  • Proven solid track record of translating emerging technology signals into product or business decisions
  • Proven evidence of forming original perspectives (not just summarizing research), such as:
    • Written insights
    • Strategy memos
    • Thought leadership
    • Internal influence
  • Proven exceptional ability to synthesize ambiguity into clear, compelling recommendations for executives

*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
Application Deadline: This will be posted for a minimum of 2 business days or until a sufficient candidate pool has been collected. Job posting may come down early due to volume of applicants.
