What is a Remote P&C Insurance job?

A Remote P&C Insurance job involves working from home or another remote location to sell, manage, or underwrite property and casualty (P&C) insurance policies. Professionals in this role may handle customer inquiries, assess risks, process claims, or provide policy recommendations. Strong communication skills and knowledge of insurance regulations are essential. Many remote positions require a P&C insurance license, which varies by state.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote P&C Insurance position, and why are they important?

To excel in a Remote P&C Insurance position, you need a thorough understanding of property and casualty insurance products, risk assessment, and underwriting principles, typically backed by relevant insurance licenses such as P&C Producer or Adjuster certifications. Familiarity with industry-standard software like insurance management systems (e.g., Applied Epic, AMS360) and CRM platforms is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are valuable for client interactions and teamwork. These abilities ensure accurate policy management, superior customer service, and seamless collaboration within distributed teams.

What are some typical challenges faced by Remote P&C Insurance professionals, and how can they overcome them?

Remote P&C Insurance professionals often face challenges such as building rapport with clients virtually, staying updated on regulatory changes, and managing tasks independently without in-person supervision. Employers often provide robust resources and support to facilitate remote collaboration and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Job description

Good Things Start Here.
Good things are happening at Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companiesโ€”an A+ (Superior) rated, nationwide Property & Casualty insurer backed by Berkshire Hathaway. With supportive leadership, collaborative teams, and opportunities to grow, GUARD is a place where people build meaningful, longterm careers.

Good Things You Can Count On.

  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days remote / 3 inoffice
  • Predictable hours (no nights, weekends, or holidays)
  • Competitive pay + generous PTO
  • Medical, dental & vision starting day one
  • 401(k), tuition reimbursement & longevity bonuses

As a Business Process Engineer, you will help transform how work gets done across our Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance organization. In this highly visible, crossfunctional role, you will analyze, design, and optimize endtoend workflows that power our core operations. You will be working at the intersection of business, technology, data, and emerging AI capabilities to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, and experience.

This role is ideal for a handson problem solver who brings strong process discipline, comfort with data, and curiosity about how modern tools, especially AI-enabled solutions, can accelerate improvement and reduce manual work.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Process Analysis & Optimization

  • Map and document currentstate processes across core and supporting P&C insurance functions.
  • Perform rootcause analysis to identify operational friction, inefficiencies, handoff issues, and sources of waste or leakage.
  • Design futurestate workflows that reduce manual effort, improve cycle time, and enhance qualityโ€”often leveraging automation or AIenabled approaches.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to deliver tangible, measurable outcomes.

Data & Performance Insights

  • Analyze operational performance metrics including cycle time, throughput, productivity, severity, leakage, quality, and customer experience indicators.
  • Structure and interpret operational data (including unstructured inputs) to surface insights and identify automation or optimization opportunities.
  • Partner with data teams to validate results, interpret trends, and prioritize improvement initiatives.

Technology & Automation Enablement

  • Collaborate with Technology and Product teams to define business requirements for system enhancements and workflow solutions.
  • Identify and assess opportunities for automation, including RPA, AI/ML, straightthrough processing, and digital selfservice.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensure operational readiness for new releases.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with business leaders, managers, and frontline teams to understand pain points and improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitate process discovery sessions, workshops, and working sessions.
  • Act as a bridge between business and technical teamsโ€”translating intent into clear requirements and evaluating whether solutions deliver the intended outcome.

Change Management & Implementation

  • Develop rollout plans, training materials, and communications to support adoption.
  • Monitor postimplementation performance and refine solutions as needed.
  • Embed changes into standard operating procedures and governance frameworks.

Required

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, Data & Analytics, or related field.
  • 3 plus years of experience in process improvement, business analysis, or operations
  • Property & Casualty (P&C) experience is a must-have
  • Experience with core insurance platformsโ€”policy, claims, and/or underwriting.
  • Proven experience with process mapping tools (e.g., Visio, Miro)
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, including working with operational data.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to collaborate at all levels.

Preferred

  • Experience using Power BI and SQL to analyze operational data, develop performance dashboards, and support datadriven process improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with RPA, workflow automation, or AI/ML applications in insurance.
  • Exposure to regulatory and compliance requirements in P&C insurance.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (certification a plus).
  • Experience supporting Agile teams (Scrum, Kanban)

*Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship needs*
