Summary
About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
A recruitment incentive may be authorized.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties
Help
  • Performs a variety of ambulatory or inpatient procedures as ordered and under the supervision of a credentialed provider and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Administers oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medication; proper dose must be ordered and verified by license provider.
  • Transports patients to other clinical areas as needed.
  • Monitors patient for changes in condition while in route and makes notifications of changes in status as appropriate.
  • Operates specialized medical equipment associated with assigned clinic/unit and commensurate with training (including but not limited to blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, wheelchairs).
  • Performs diagnostic procedures (EKG 's, blood glucose, urine dipstick, etc.) and provides results to appropriate medical providers.
  • Enters and retrieves data from Medical Health Systems (MHS) Genesis, and other appropriate computer systems as necessary for patient intake.
  • Prepares charts for providers in accordance with clinic policies.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 44 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing patients for surgical procedures; assisting providers with surgical procedures; and/or maintaining surgical instruments and/or equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Preferred: Experience performing a variety of ambulatory or inpatient procedures as ordered and under the supervision of a credentialed provider and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
