As StackAdapt's Privacy Attorney, reporting to the Global Privacy Counsel, you will be directly involved in supporting and developing StackAdapt's privacy program to maintain compliance with privacy laws, mitigate risk and build trust with customers and consumers This position will work cross-functionally with business units and within strategic projects to advance StackAdapt's privacy program and supporting technologies. This is an exciting opportunity at a high growth Canadian tech company that allows you to play a key role in implementing strategic data protection initiatives throughout the enterprise to unify central business and technology groups.

StackAdapt is a Remote First company and you will work as part of a highly collaborative remote global Legal team. This role is open to candidates located anywhere in Canada or the US. Occasional travel may be required.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work closely with the Global Privacy Counsel and other members of the Legal team to develop and implement privacy and governance strategies to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements as well as privacy commitments
  • Collaborate with the Global Privacy Counsel and Compliance Lead, on the enhancement of processes to monitor, audit, and improve information and privacy practices
  • Support commercial transactions by negotiating and drafting Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and other privacy-related contractual provisions, ensuring compliance with applicable data protection laws while supporting business objectives
  • Assist members of the revenue, advertising solutions, client services and security teams on privacy matters, including in areas related to partnerships and business development opportunities
  • Identify requirements of applicable data protection laws and regulations and coordinate with internal teams to ensure proper data processing 
  • Monitor evolving privacy legislation including analyses of draft and proposed bills and amendments 
  • Assist with privacy assessments and internal training exercises 
  • Implement privacy by design principles and ensure privacy considerations are integrated into projects and business objectives
  • Continuously develop skills and knowledge of the data protection landscape and relevant industries through research, due diligence, training, benchmarking, and other means
  • Support the team with a variety of data protection projects and coordinating various activities with key stakeholders as required
  • Provide thought leadership internally and externally

What you'll bring to the table:

  • Understanding of data protection laws and industry guidelines, particularly those relevant to marketing and advertising technologies. 
  • Practical, business-minded professional with at least 5 years of privacy, legal operations, or similar experience inhouse representing an organisation in the adtech or martech industry, or within the privacy or data protection group of a reputable US firm
  • Creativity, a day to day ability to think outside the box, and an ability to work exceptionally collaboratively with others 
  • Hands-on experience providing practical and actionable legal guidance regarding risks and obligations under data protection frameworks  (e.g., CCPA, COPPA, PIPEDA, HIPAA) 
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into succinct and relevant points, including the ability to translate privacy concepts to business terms
  • A positive, collaborative spirit, and a learning mindset 
  • Adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity, and enjoy a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Professional maturity and integrity 
  • Exceptional writing skills, strong attention to detail, and an ability to create original drafted documents
  • IAPP Privacy certification a plus 
  • Active standing in at least one state bar in the U.S
