Job Summary:
The Instructional & Content Designer is responsible for creating engaging and effective digital learning experiences that help customers successfully implement, operate, and maintain Xylem solutions. This role partners closely with product management and subject matter experts to design and develop instructor-led training materials, eLearning courses, instructional videos, job aids, and other performance support resources. The ideal candidate combines instructional design expertise with strong multimedia development skills and a keen attention to detail to translate complex technical concepts into clear, effective, and engaging learning experiences that drive customer success.


This role will work in a hybrid capacity in the Morrisville, NC office.
Core Responsibilities:
Learning Experience Design

  • Apply instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, and performance-based learning strategies to create effective solutions that drive technical proficiency and customer success.
  • Define learning outcomes, learning objectives, and instructional strategies that align with customer needs and business goals.
  • Design and develop instructor-led, virtual, and self-paced learning experiences.
  • Create job aids, performance support tools, and reference materials that enhance learner knowledge and performance.

Content & Multimedia Development:

  • Storyboard, script, produce, and edit instructional videos and multimedia learning assets.
  • Develop interactive digital learning experiences using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Camtasia, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Create graphics, animations, and other visual assets that improve learner engagement and comprehension.
  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to enhance content develop efficiency and learning outcomes.
  • Ensure all learning assets adhere to Xylem brand standards and visual design best practices.


Learning Needs Analysis & Continuous Improvement:

  • Conduct learning needs analysis and performance gap analyses through stakeholder interviews, research, and requirements gathering.
  • Recommend and develop learning and performance support solutions that address identified business and customer needs.
  • Maintain and update existing training materials to ensure ongoing accuracy, consistency, and relevance.


Stakeholder Collaboration & Project Execution:

  • Partner with subject matter experts, product teams, and key stakeholders to develop high quality learning solutions.
  • Manage multiple content development projects, priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Communicate project status, risks, recommendations, and progress proactively to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team initiatives and support a collaborative team environment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Technical Communications, Educational Technology, Multimedia Design, Information Design, a related field, or a combination of appropriate work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing instructor led or digital content.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform complex technical concepts, processes, or procedures into clear, innovative, and visually engaging content.
  • Experience creating instructional videos, including storyboarding, scripting, production, and editing using software such as Camtasia or comparable video editing tools.
  • Familiarity with eLearning authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or comparable.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud for developing graphics, videos, interactive media, and other digital learning assets. Preference for advanced experience with PowerPoint, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Strong stakeholder management, project management, and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, and learning processes.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing or delivering technical training within utility, smart infrastructure, metering, or related technology environments.
  • Experience publishing, managing, and maintaining learning content within a Learning Management System (LMS) preferred but not required.
  • Skills in motion graphics, animation, or visual storytelling.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, Confluence.
  • Experience leveraging AI-powered tools to enhance learning content design, development, and delivery.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
