Job Description

The HR Generalist is a regular full-time position reporting to the Manager, Human Resources. ย 

This role provides day-to-day HR support for USA Volleyball's growing workforce across multiple locations, including California, Colorado, Oklahoma, and other remote locations. The HR Generalist supports talent acquisition, onboarding, Culture initiatives, and organizational development while performing a broad range of HR generalist responsibilities.


Essential is the commitment to demonstrate a sense of inclusion, safety, and collaborative behavior across the organization, supporting a culture of integrity, humility and consummate professionalism. Extended hours may be required to include nights, weekends, and holidays. The position works out of either the Torrance or Irvine, California office and is not eligible from a remote location.ย 

Requirements

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:

Talent Acquisition and Onboarding

  • Partners with hiring managers and departments to coordinate inclusive and compliant recruitment, candidate selection, and hiring processes.
  • Reviews applications, conducts initial video interviews, coordinates representative panel interviews, and recommends qualified candidates for further consideration.
  • Manages candidate communications, offer documentation, background screenings, and other pre-employment requirements.
  • Conducts HR orientation for new hires, including an overview of the Employee Handbook, organizational policies, benefits, required documentation, and HR resources.
  • Processes Form I-9's, conducts periodic audits, and addresses documentation issues in partnership with HR leadership.

Benefits and Employee Support

  • Processes benefit enrollments and qualifying life-event changes; supports annual open enrollment; and serves as a liaison among employees, vendors, payroll, and HR leadership to resolve benefit issues.
  • Provides employee-focused guidance on HR policies, procedures, benefits, and workplace practices; escalates sensitive, complex, or high-risk matters to HR leadership.

Compliance and Safety

  • Supports multi-state compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements, with particular attention to California employment laws.
  • Coordinates Workplace Violence Prevention Plan administration, including training, incident logs, corrective-action tracking, periodic review, and recordkeeping.
  • Supports HR compliance reporting, audits, and filings, including ACA reporting.
  • Maintains required workplace postings, employee notices, and HR records.
  • Monitors relevant employment-law and safety developments and communicates potential impacts to HR leadership.
  • Coordinates quarterly Safety and Security Committee meetings, including agendas, minutes, follow-up actions, and documentation.

HR Administration and Employee Lifecycle

  • Maintains accurate and secure personnel, benefits, and HRIS records; conducts periodic audits resolving documentation gaps.
  • Processes and tracks personnel change forms and related documentation for employee changes, leaves, and separations.
  • Partners with HR and business units to develop, update, and maintain job descriptions.
  • Coordinates offboarding, including separation documentation, internal notifications, system-access changes, benefits and post-employment notices, personnel-file updates, and exit interviews.

Leadership Training & Development and Culture

  • Partners with the HR Manager to coordinate leadership training, manager resources, performance-management support, and employee-development initiatives.
  • Helps develop, source, and deliver training supporting compliance, inclusion, retention, professional development, and organizational culture.
  • Supports DEI initiatives by reviewing practices, identifying improvement opportunities, assisting with action plans, and analyzing workforce and employee-experience data.
  • Participates in applicable USA Volleyball Social, Wellness, and DEI committee meetings.
  • Performs other HR-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years of HR generalist experience, including talent acquisition, candidate screening, interviewing, onboarding, and employee lifecycle support.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment requirements; California employment-law experience preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Strong written, verbal, customer-service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting workplace safety programs (e.g., Workplace Violence Prevention Plans).ย 
  • Familiarity with Form I-9 compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential, or comparable HR certification preferred; California employment-law knowledge or training strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting a multi-state, remote, or geographically distributed workforce preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a USAV background screening (prior to hire date).
  • Must successfully complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date. Training must be maintained throughout employment.

Salary: ย $60,500 - $70,500 commensurate with experienceย
