Engineering Lab Technician

Flock

Atlanta, GA โ€ข Remote

$60K - $80K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted yesterday

Job description

The Problem

As Flock accelerates R&D across our entire product hardware and mechanical suite, rapid prototyping and early-stage system validation are vital to maintaining engineering velocity. Bringing novel hardware concepts into production requires hands-on assembly, precise lab instrumentation tuning, and systematic technical evaluations. You will build physical prototypes, execute technical board bring-ups, and keep our R&D hardware testing pipelines running efficiently.

What You'll Own
  • Assemble and fabricate hardware prototypes at the PCB level, applying advanced soldering, wire termination, and mechanical assembly techniques.

  • Perform physical bring-up and QA evaluations on early-stage engineering designs to diagnose hardware malfunctions and optimize performance.

  • Utilize spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters to execute power profiling, signal verification, and system tuning.

  • Operate additive manufacturing technologies to build mechanical components and iterate on pre-production physical prototypes.

  • Manage firmware deployments and software release installations across physical testing hardware in the R&D lab environment.

  • Document comprehensive technical SOPs, diagnostic guides, and test records to support expanding lab infrastructure as operations scale.

What This Role is Not
  • This isn't a traditional manufacturing assembly-line position, you will work directly on early-stage, experimental hardware prototypes in an R&D environment.

  • This is not a desk-bound design job, you will spend your time in the hardware lab working with physical PCBs, bench instruments, and mechanical fabrication tools.

  • This isn't a static maintenance role, you'll actively feed technical feedback back to engineering teams to refine mechanical, electrical, and software designs.

What You Bring
  • Practical experience in technical engineering or prototyping environments, supporting early-stage hardware development and assembly systems.

  • Demonstrated capability in hardware fabrication, including advanced soldering, wire harness termination, and PCB-level prototyping.

  • Technical proficiency operating lab instrumentation such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters for power profiling and signal analysis.

  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.

  • Capability to write or modify Linux and Python scripts to drive technical automation, instrument control, and data acquisition.

  • Experience with additive manufacturing tools, CAD design tools, or 3D printing workflows is a plus.
