Job description

Job Description Summary

This versatile, handsโ€‘on role is intended for a lead-level Additive Manufacturing Engineer who will act as a technical lead, owning additive manufacturing (AM) process and product maturation from development through production deployment. Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is the primary AM technology for this role, with additional modalities (binder jetting, EBAM, DED, etc.) being explored across a range of metal alloys and gas turbine components. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, quality assurance, and close collaboration with internal and external partners.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Own and execute new and existing additive product and process improvements, including troubleshooting issues while ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met.
  • Set up additive build files and oversee postโ€‘processing, part inspection, analysis, and process documentation, with strong communication to engineers and technicians.
  • Own the development, producibility, and robust qualification of additive products and test hardware, advancing MRL levels and transferring qualified technologies into the Gas Power supply chain.
  • Lead root cause analysis for additive parts and processes.
  • Work closely with plant manufacturing engineers to industrialize complete additive supply chains.
  • Partner with internal customers to develop production catchers and implementation plans covering the full lifecycle of additive parts.
  • Support training and education efforts across the organization, providing expertise in topology optimization, lattice structures, generative design, and other Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) techniques.
  • Engage in Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives and support the maintenance and enhancement of engineering processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5โ€“8 years of relevant engineering and/or manufacturing experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (<10%) as required.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder, permitted to work on U.S. exportโ€‘controlled technology.
  • This role requires access to U.S. exportโ€‘controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. exportโ€‘controlled information from the U.S. Government.
What Makes You Stand Out โ€“ Desired Characteristics
  • Deep understanding and proven experience with LPBF metal additive manufacturing, including print and postโ€‘print processes.
  • Working familiarity with Electron Beam Melting (EBM), Directed Energy Deposition (DED), and Binder Jetting.
  • Strong proficiency in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles, including topology optimization, lattice structures, generative design, part consolidation, support structure optimization, and build orientation effects.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problemโ€‘solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving AM process and product challenges.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to influence crossโ€‘functional teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, and Services) on DfAM principles and AM implementation strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts and prepare highโ€‘quality technical documentation.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience using NX or other 3D CAD and/or simulation tools, with the ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Experience developing new products and transitioning them into production environments, including qualification activities.
  • Familiarity with dataโ€‘driven process improvement techniques; experience using AI, Python, or similar tools is a plus.
