Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst

POSITION OVERVIEW

DEFTEC Corporation has an opening for a part-time, remote Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Analyst to support our corporate team. We seek a self-motivated individual who can work independently and demonstrate strong teamwork skills. This position provides an opportunity to be a key contributor to a rapidly growing organization, with room for substantial career growth. The Senior FP&A Analyst will provide advanced financial planning, forecasting, cost analysis, and proposal development support for programs serving the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), NATO, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and other federal customers. This part‑time role works directly with the CEO and provides critical financial insights to support strategic decisions, contract pursuits, and operational performance. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in government contracting finance and cost proposal development.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support annual budgets, multi‑year forecasts, and program‑level financial planning for defense and federal contracts.
  • Prepare monthly program financials, cost analyses, indirect rate tracking, and contract performance reports.
  • Conduct variance analysis comparing actuals to budgets, forecasts, and contract baselines.
  • Build and maintain financial models that incorporate contract requirements, funding profiles, indirect rate structures, labor categories, and pricing strategies.
  • Partner with DEFTE's Vice President of Operations and Contract Manager to ensure alignment with FAR, DFARS, and agency‑specific cost principles.
  • Analyze labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and indirect expenses to monitor contract health and profitability.
  • Support funding requests, spend plans, and customer reporting requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including DCAA‑related financial reviews.
  • Lead the development of compliant and highly competitive cost proposals, pricing models, and cost volumes for federal solicitations (DoD, DHS, DOJ, NATO, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial performance reports, program-level analyses, and variance assessments.
  • Provide the CEO with high‑level financial insights, risk assessments, and recommendations for resource allocation, pricing strategy, and program health.
  • Analyze cost structures for cost‑plus, T&M, and FFP contracts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and profitability.
  • Support internal financial governance, indirect rate monitoring, and cost reduction initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum 12+ years of directly related experience in FP&A, cost proposal development, pricing, program finance, or related roles within the defense or federal contracting industry.
  • Proven experience preparing cost proposals and cost volumes in accordance with FAR/DFARS and agency-specific rules.
  • Strong financial modeling and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience using Unanet
  • Understanding of DCAA requirements, indirect rate structures, and government cost principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief executives and non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting DoD, DHS, DOJ, NATO, or Intelligence Community programs.
  • Experience with price‑to‑win strategies or competitive pricing analysis.
