Job description

Are you an experienced litigation paralegal already performing substantive legal work including drafting, analyzing, and managing cases alongside attorneys? Are you in the DC area? Do you enjoy being more than support staff and working instead as a trusted operator who helps drive cases forward, solve problems, and reduce attorney workload in meaningful ways? Are you looking for an opportunity to step into a role where your experience is valued from day one with the potential to grow into a long-term position? If so, R & W Group has a great new temp to perm position!
One of our favorite law firm clients is a business litigation firm based in Northern Virginia. Even though the position is mostly remote, you MUST be located in the DC area. They are looking to add an experienced paralegal to the team. This firm believes in the following:
  • Customer Service Superstars - We go above and beyond to make clients feel supported and confident
  • Reliability & Accountability - We do what we say we'll do. On time, every time
  • Permanent Beta - We are always improving, refining, and evolving
  • Attention to Detail - We catch the small things so our clients don't have to

The firm is looking for an experienced Litigation Paralegal (Temp-to-Perm) who is already operating at a high level and can step in quickly to take ownership of substantive legal work.
This position, designed for someone who can immediately contribute to active litigation matters, with the opportunity to transition into a long-term role based on performance and firm needs. This role is distinct from traditional case management support. The firm already has a paralegal dedicated to administrative, case management, and project coordination responsibilities. This position is focused on higher-level litigation work, including drafting, research, discovery ownership, and trial preparation. This is not an administrative role. You will be expected to work independently, anticipate attorney needs, and contribute directly to case strategy, progression, and outcomes.
The firm offers:
  • Fully remote flexibility
  • Opportunity to transition to a permanent role based on performance
  • Competitive compensation (commensurate with experience)
  • Flexible working hours in a results-focused environment
  • Minimal meetings, high-trust culture
  • Exposure to high-level business litigation work

In this role, you will be working on substantive Legal Drafting & Analysis.
  • Draft motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and responses with minimal oversight
  • Prepare affidavits, declarations, and supporting documents
  • Conduct legal research and produce well-structured research memos
  • Identify legal issues, factual gaps, and evidentiary weaknesses within cases

Discovery Ownership
  • Manage discovery workflows end-to-end across multiple matters
  • Organize, review, and categorize large document sets
  • Draft and manage discovery responses and privilege logs
  • Coordinate with clients to collect and produce documents
  • Ensure discovery is strategically organized and usable for attorneys

Trial Preparation & Case Organization
  • Build and maintain trial notebooks, litigation files, and preparation materials
  • Organize exhibits for hearings, depositions, and trial
  • Prepare filing packets, exhibits, and supporting documentation
  • Ensure all materials are accurate, complete, and court-ready

Depositions & Workflow Management
  • Own deposition workflows from scheduling through preparation
  • Prepare and organize deposition exhibits
  • Draft deposition summaries and issue-focused outlines
  • Coordinate with expert witnesses and supporting materials

Process Improvement & Systems
  • Create and refine standardized templates for motions, discovery, and filings
  • Improve internal workflows and case management systems
  • Anticipate needs and proactively reduce friction for attorneys
  • Help ensure cases move forward efficiently and predictably

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in business or complex litigation
  • Demonstrated experience performing substantive legal work, including drafting motions, pleadings, and discovery (not solely administrative or case management tasks)
  • Proven ability to work independently on active litigation matters, with minimal direction from attorneys
  • Strong legal research skills with experience producing structured, thoughtful research memos
  • Hands-on experience managing discovery processes end-to-end, including document review, organization, and drafting responses
  • Experience preparing trial materials, exhibits, and filing packets in state and/or federal court
  • Ability to identify factual gaps, inconsistencies, and evidentiary issues within a case file
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and strong document management habits
  • Proficiency with Office 365, Adobe, Clio (or similar case management tools), and court e-filing systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

This role is perfect for a paralegal who:
  • Is already doing advanced, substantive legal work and wants more ownership
  • Prefers a high-responsibility, low-micromanagement environment
  • Enjoys being a key partner to attorneys, not just support staff
  • Is open to a temp-to-perm opportunity with long-term potential
  • Thrives in a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Solid compensation ($40- 60/hr, depending upon experience). Benefits upon conversion to a perm employee. If you want to step into a role where you can make an immediate impact, do meaningful legal work, and earn a long-term opportunity, apply online or register with us at www.r-wgroup.com.
