Middle School Instructor

Full-Time | Remote (United States)

Bring lessons to life in the virtual classroom and keep middle school students engaged, supported, and progressing toward their goals.

Position Title: Middle School Instructor

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM EST

Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the U.S. with reliable internet. We are unable to hire candidates in the Pacific Coast region.

Reports To: Middle School Team Leader

Pay Rate: Starting at $23.72/hour (Bachelor's Degree and an active teaching certification)

Position Summary

The Middle School Instructor supports and helps lead instruction within My Virtual Academy's virtual middle school learning environment. Working closely with curriculum teachers, the Instructor helps deliver lessons during learning labs, manages the virtual classroom, takes accurate attendance, maintains a focused and orderly setting, and provides direct support to students during class sessions. The Instructor ensures a smooth, organized, and engaging learning experience that keeps middle school students progressing through their coursework.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning Lab Support

  • Prepare for and support instruction during scheduled learning labs, helping deliver lessons aligned with MVA's curriculum to keep students progressing through their coursework.
  • Monitor the virtual classroom's waiting room and admit attendees based on established criteria.
  • Take accurate attendance of students and track learning lab participation.
  • Monitor chat interactions to keep students focused and on task, and send messages to facilitate classroom management.
  • Remove students from the virtual classroom when necessary, according to guidelines.
  • Support curriculum teachers with attendance, technology, and classroom management during assigned learning labs.
  • Work closely with other middle school staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience.

Team & Meetings

  • Attend all required trainings, weekly team meetings, all-staff and middle school staff meetings, support staff meetings, and 1:1 meetings with your Lead as scheduled.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by Lead Teachers or Middle School Coordinators.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification covering the middle school grade level required. If not currently in Michigan, must obtain a Michigan certificate within 3 months of hire.
  • Proven experience in classroom management, teaching, or virtual learning environments.
  • Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with educational technology platforms such as Edmentum and online communication tools.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and maintain organized, accurate records.
  • Experience instructing or supporting middle school-aged students in a virtual setting.

Work Environment

This remote position allows you to work from anywhere in the United States with a reliable internet connection; however, we are unable to hire candidates in the Pacific Coast region. MVA provides a laptop and monitor to set you up for success. Middle school staff are expected to work Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM EST, with remaining hours flexible and additional hours as needed for training and meetings. Staff must be available from the start of summer training through the last district end date. Our team values flexibility but emphasizes staying connected and engaged through regular virtual meetings and check-ins.
