About the Field CTO role
The Field CTO plays a critical role in helping enterprise organisations define and execute modern transformation strategies centred around AI, modern software engineering and digital product innovation.
This is a highly strategic, client-facing leadership role focused on executive advisory, solution shaping and market development. The successful candidate will work closely with senior business and technology stakeholders to identify where AI can create measurable business value, modernise enterprise technology landscapes, and reshape customer and operational experiences.
You will combine commercial acumen, strategic thinking and deep engineering credibility to help clients evolve from traditional digital transformation programmes toward intelligent, AI-enabled enterprises.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, commercially minded and deeply customer-focused. They are equally comfortable leading executive discussions on AI strategy and organisational change as they are engaging deeply with architects, engineers and delivery teams on implementation approaches.
Core Responsibilities
AI Strategy
  • Advise enterprise customers on how to adopt and operationalise AI in ways that create measurable business impact
  • Lead executive workshops and discovery engagements focused on new digital products, AI strategy, AI use case identification & prioritisation
  • Help organisations identify high-value AI opportunities across customer experience, operations, software delivery, modernization and internal platforms
  • Tailor AI conversations and narratives based on the enterprise's current AI maturity curve.
Strategic Advisory & Executive Engagement
  • Build trusted relationships with CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, and senior business stakeholders, serving as their technical advisor.
  • Facilitate strategic conversations around innovation, modernisation and emerging technology adoption
  • Translate complex business and technology challenges into actionable solution roadmaps, working closely with experts in data, AI, design, and engineering
  • Help clients define measurable business outcomes and success metrics, and build a business case for investment in strategic initiatives
Solution Strategy & Modern Engineering
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, design and delivery teams to define differentiated, scalable and commercially viable solutions
  • Show deep expertise in the techniques and methodologies of agentic engineering
  • Drive modernisation approaches that improve agility, resilience, speed to market and customer outcomes
  • Ensure solution strategies align to modern engineering principles, platform thinking and scalable delivery models
Growth & Commercial Leadership
  • Support the growth of strategic customer accounts by acting as a trusted, vendor-agnostic technology advisor to the C-suite, identifying expansion and long-term growth strategies in collaboration with sales leadership
  • Shape strategic pursuits, proposals and large-scale opportunities across AI, modernisation and digital transformation
  • Develop compelling business cases and outcome narratives that clearly articulate ROI, operational impact and strategic value
Market Development & Thought Leadership
  • Contribute to Nearform's market propositions, strategic partnerships and thought leadership across AI and modern engineering
  • Help shape new offerings and go-to-market strategies based on evolving enterprise customer needs
  • Represent Nearform externally through workshops, events, industry conversations and strategic customer engagements
Experience & Capabilities
Consulting & Executive Advisory
  • Significant experience in consulting technology leadership or enterprise technology services
  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior technology and business leaders
  • Experience shaping strategic transformation initiatives and complex services engagements
  • Strong commercial instincts with the ability to connect technology strategy to business value
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving, ambiguous and high-growth environments
AI & Modern Technology
  • Strong understanding of the practical application of AI within enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with solution architecture, software architecture, cloud platforms, and AI native software engineering practices.
  • Expertise in cloud-native architecture on one of AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Strong foundation in software engineering, with working proficiency in at least one programming language
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to less or non-technical audiences
  • Experience rapidly developing proof-of-concepts, prototypes and reference architectures during a sales cycle

3. Panel Final Interview (1.5 hours, Zoom)
A conversation with leaders across Solutions, Delivery and Sales, focusing on your approach to collaborating with senior business and technology stakeholders to establish strong partnerships and drive business value through technology.
